Prince Willard is quite content to have no chance of ever being king. When circumstances conspire to push him closer and closer to the throne, however, he must decide which is stronger -- his love of leisure, or his sense of duty.
SYNOPSIS:
Prince Willard of Elegonn has almost no chance of becoming king.
This is fine with him. He's enjoying the fame and fortune of being a member of the royal family,
with almost no responsibility. He spends his time carousing, chasing women, and generally
having a good time.
Willard's only duty is to attend official functions that no-one else in the family has time or desire
to attend themselves. It is while he's acting in this capacity, attending the funeral of the king of
Lennox, a neighboring kingdom, when he is almost assassinated. This incident provokes a war
between Lennox and Elegonn.
During this unexpected adventure Willard unwittingly shows the members of his bodyguard,
composed of tough and respected veterans of Elegonn's military, that there is more to him than
people know, as he manages to rescue them after they were captured.
The Prince is the story of Willard's long, bloody, and reluctant journey to the throne. It follows
his own personal growth, from a playboy and drunkard and royal joke, to a strong, charismatic
leader, beloved by Elegonn's citizenry, and a trusted and sought-after ally by his neighbors.
