THE HOUSE ON LAVENDER LANE

THE HOUSE ON LAVENDER LANE
By Travis Myles

GENRE: Comedy
LOGLINE:

A gay couple invites their friends to move into their expensive new home in order to cover expenses after one of the couple loses his job; they learn the LGBTQ community is more diverse than they realized; and they discover family is who you choose.

SYNOPSIS:

Jason Olson, a straight-laced gay man (think Pete Buttegieg) is talking with his overbearing mother, Lola, while he is waiting for his husband, Garrison, an overly dramatic mess, to get home from work. Jason and Garrison have recently moved into Garrison’s family home, a big and expensive former schoolhouse built in the 1850’s. Lola has stopped by unexpectedly and Jason is not too happy about it. Jason has champagne out to celebrate the promotion Garrison is expecting to get. After needling Jason about the big new home and Garrison’s promotion, Lola leaves just as Garrison gets home. Expecting to hear good news, Jason is all excited, but over-dramatic Garrison starts to cry as he tells Jason he lost his job. The promotion went to a young guy from New York named Lucas Barnes. Jason is beside himself because they need Garrison’s salary in order to afford the big house they just bought. Jason had planned a celebration dinner with their friends Spence and Neal. Caught unaware by the news, Jason did not get to cancel the dinner plans. Garrison says they should still go but ends up breaking down when he tells Spence, a southern matron type gay man, and Neal, an overly sexual college professor, that he was fired. Just as Garrison is getting over being fired, the waiters show up with a cake to celebrate his promotion. Garrison cries and ends up face first in the cake. “I should have cancelled the cake,” Jason says. While at dinner, Jason tells Neal and Spence he is not sure how he is going to continue to afford their new home. Neal suggests that he will move in with them. Jason is against the idea, but Garrison is all for it. On moving day, Neal has lined up the Bare-Naked Movers to help him. The night of the move, Neal arranges a hook up on Grindr, but he’s afraid the guy may be shady so he asks Garrison and Jason to hide under a table in his room while the trick is there, just in case. Jason and Garrison reluctantly agree. The next morning, the trick is still there, and Spence shows up to see how the first night went. Jason and Garrison recount their experience under the table and Spence says to call him next time. Garrison says there is not enough room under the table, but Spence says he will bring his own table leaf. Spence asks Jason and Garrison if they have room for two more tenants. Spence’s nephew is moving to town and needs a place to stay and Spence’s apartment is too small for the two of them. Jason and Garrison say they can move in too. Spence calls his nephew to tell him they have a place to stay. His nephew, Lucas Barnes from New York – the one who unknowingly took Garrison’s job- cannot wait to meet everyone.
