In the present day, on the Canadian border, Sam, a small time crock driven by greed and his life long ambitions, must confront an ancient Native American curse holding the population of a remote town hostage.

Sam, a young small time crook, has stolen more than $50,000 from Dix Beaufort, a mob boss. Persued by the Manchester brothers, who have come fresh from killing his brother, Sam tries to escape over the wild mountain roads of the North. But, in his headlong flight he accidentally runs over a man in his car. In fact, the man is already dead – a gaping hole in his chest. Almost instantly, local townsfolk, led by Marlowe, come to Sam’s rescue and offer to put him up in Murton Caves, a small town nestled at the foot of a mountain and surrounded by an electric fence.

Whilst they are escorting him, a mysterious Tom Tom drumming is resonates from the moutain.

During his stay at Murton Caves, Sam realises that most of the villagers never leave their homes. He meets Jenny who asks for his help; she is being kept prisoner here, like most of the inhabitants. According to her, Marlowe and his men become Wendigos, creatures with black blood who feed on human flesh, and the hearts of their victims.

Over the course of one night, Sam is caught between the mob killers who have entered the town hot on his trail, and his new captors. His misadventure takes him to a infamous sacred mountain that overlooks the village, where it all started over a century ago...
