SYNOPSIS:
"Big Heart. Short Legs."
On a struggling animal rescue ranch In the drought-stricken central California mountains lives a dachshund with an oversized dream. Stretch's life takes an exciting turn when Dash, a retired greyhound, and his mate, Grace, arrive at the farm. Stretch is captivated by Dash's tales of past races and decides he too, wants to become a race dog. Despite the cynicism from the farm's other residents, Stretch’s best friend, Oink, a witty pig with a knack for scheming, promises to help him train by getting advice from all the fastest animals in the barns.
Training begins, full of comedic missteps, humorous anecdotes, and heartening moments that bring Stretch and Oink closer together. As they battle the derision of the other animals and the farm's increasing hardships, their determination and resilience become a beacon of hope, especially for the young Will, Stretch's owner. The situation becomes desperate as the drought worsens and Stretch saves Will, a neighbor and her dog from El Cuchillo, the ever encroaching mountain lion of the hills. Seeing that Stretch has heart, Dash's acquiesces and rallies the other animals, who decide to support Stretch in his endeavor, culminating in an emotional and wisdom-filled exchange between Dash and Stretch.
The climax coincides with stretch entering the State Fair Weiner dog races. Stretch's gallant performance at the race doesn't earn him the top spot but does garner him and the ranch attention and affection, bringing an influx of visitors and generous donations to the ranch. Will's family uses the newfound resources to implement water-conservation measures, ensuring the ranch's sustainability. Although Stretch doesn't become a racing champion, he becomes a hero in his own right, securing a bright future for his beloved home. Through determination, friendship, and a little dash of audacity, Stretch and his friends teach us that even the underdog can lead the race when it comes to matters of the heart.
