The story is about Dima’s journey from a selfish, violent convict and highway bandit to a man willing to pay the ultimate price to save other human beings.

Another main thread of the story is the journey of Svetlana, an unassuming nurse, wife, and a mother of two little children.

Russians invade her town, and mercenaries from the notorious Wagner Group brutalize its inhabitants.

After her father and husband are executed, her mother is murdered, and her younger sister is raped and killed, she realizes that she has the strength to survive and to save her children.
