HIGH ROLLERS

HIGH ROLLERS
By Will Prescott

GENRE: Thriller, Crime
LOGLINE:

A drug dealing roller rink employee discovers his boss is making a dangerous operational change and fights to convince his hard-headed protégé to get out before law enforcement moves in. Described as an "offbeat crime thriller that's like Breaking Bad set in a roller rink," the entirety of the first season takes place on one night in 1985.

SYNOPSIS:

A dark comedy crime series about a drug-front roller rink, the criminals who work there, and the cops planning to take it down.

It’s July 1985 and small-town roller rink, HIGH ROLLERS, is struggling to make ends meet. Sure, the skate-loving regulars make their weekly appearances, but the nearly 25-year-old business is becoming better known for the place to score cheap weed than roller skating entertainment.

?Realizing that something needs to change, the owner of High Rollers, former artistic skating champion, JACK RIPLEY, decides to go into business with a different drug trafficker to start dealing cocaine to attract some wealthier clientele.

This decision baffles Jack's right-hand-man and lifelong High Roller's employee, EMMETT DAVIS, who argues that High Rollers is not set-up for the "harder" side of the business that comes along with a much riskier lifestyle. Not to mention, how angry their current supplier, fabled drug baron ARMAGEDDON, will be if he discovers the new partnership.

An overly opportunistic man (and struggling addict), Jack shrugs these concerns off. To him, this is the only move to make and he dares Emmett to quit if he can’t take the heat. Emmett is a loyal soldier and does not quit, but instead makes several attempts to keep the new partnership from coming to fruition.

Realizing how dangerous Jack's decision is becoming– including the revelation that UNDERCOVER COPS and the D.E.A. are planning a raid– Emmett knows the only thing he CAN do is work to get his coworker/protege/surrogate younger sister, TOBI, out of the fray before it’s too late.

With the walls quickly closing in from all sides, Emmett fights valiantly to get Tobi and himself out of High Rollers before everything goes up in smoke.
