When a struggling single mom miscarries after being brutally raped by her ex-husband, her meddlesome evangelical neighbor convinces local authorities to charge her and her doctor with illegal abortion in a state where conviction means the death penalty.

SYNOPSIS:

CLARE MICHAELS (late 30s) is a struggling mom just trying to raise her spirited teen daughter KADY (15) in a hectic world. She holds down a job at Planned Parenthood by day, attends community college at night, and drives for Uber in between. Her evangelical busy-body neighbor RAYLENE WEAVER (60s) keeps an eye on her from her living room window--just to be sure Clare is living in a God-fearing manner. Clare and Kady are doing fairly well until one dreadful night when WADE, Clare's deadbeat ex-husband, shows up drunk and brutally rapes her at gunpoint. Wade tells her he will kill her and Kady if she tells anyone. Clare does a home pregnancy test that's positive then follows up with her doctor RANVEER PATEL. He confirms that she's pregnant, but with abortion now illegal in America regardless of rape or incest, Clare has a decision to make, have an illegal abortion or keep the child even though she's already struggling to raise her daughter. Raylene learns of Clare's pregnancy and "praises the Lord" for her miracle inside. But when Clare has complications with a septic pregnancy, her doctor must extract the fetus or Clare will die. Raylene learns of this and convinces authorities to charge both Clare and her doctor with an illegal abortion. Now Clare can lose everything, including Kady, and end up in prison for the rest of her life. Can she find a way out or will it all turn out to be a miscarriage of justice?
