By Carl Burcham

GENRE: Thriller
LOGLINE:

The parents of a deeply troubled teen give him a semi-automatic weapon as a Christmas present and then hide from the police after he uses it to mass murder fellow high school students.

SYNOPSIS:

CODY WOMBLEY (15) kills small animals for fun, sees demons, hates his parents and his school. His parents TODD and JANET WOMBLEY are self-indulging addicts, months behind in their mortgage payments, and embarrassed by Cody and his strange behavior. Janet has multiple affairs, Todd tries to spend most of his time away from his family, and Cody's psychosis keeps getting worse. When Todd and Janet decide to give Cody what he really wants for Christmas--a 9mm Sig Sauer semi-automatic pistol--he proudly calls it his "new beauty." At school, when his teacher finds Cody scouring the web for ammunition, she calls his parents in for a conference. They don't attend but instead text saying: "Next time don't get caught!". Later his teacher finds a drawing by Cody of guns, bullets, dead bodies and the words: "THE THOUGHTS WON'T STOP. HELP ME!" This time Todd and Janet do attend a conference with school counselors and Cody. But they refuse to take him out of school. Later that day, he withdraws his gun from his backpack, fires 60 rounds, and kills 21 schoolmates and a school bus driver. Todd and Janet go into hiding. The authorities find them cowering in a warehouse. Cody is charged with 44 felonies. His parents are charged with involuntary manslaughter. How do the teachers, parents, politicians, pro- and anti-gun advocates, students, and the rest of society react to the incident? This is that story. The story of how it's much TOO LATE FOR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS.
