THE ATTIC TRAP

THE ATTIC TRAP
By Sophie Von Rheden

GENRE: Family, Drama
LOGLINE:

An asthmatic widow struggles valiantly to regain her son's trust and must succeed in begging his forgiveness but also in breaking open the jammed door before she suffocates in the attic without her inhaler.

SYNOPSIS:

Kate Williams (63), a mystery writer suffering from severe asthma, deliberately moves into an attic apartment that was just a homeless shelter to await the hoped-for return of her long-lost son, who has left his belongings there. She is determined to apologize to her son, who was falsely accused of manslaughter because she trusted the police chief more than her child.

However, her plan takes a dangerous turn when she accidentally locks herself in the windowless bathroom without an inhaler or light and breaks the door lock, threatening to suffocate. During her struggle for survival, her son Hugh arrives and initially keeps his mother waiting so that he can have a conversation through the closed door, only to rescue her as quickly as possible when he finds out about her asthma.

In the long-awaited reconciliation, Kate learns that her son is a well-known songwriter who has written the film music for two of her crime novels under a pseudonym.

Hello everyone, today I uploaded my latest projects and updated my profile.

This 16-minute unproduced short film is set in a tiny attic from which a woman can no longer escape alone. Hence, the attic trap was inspired by the dramatic story of a friend who experienced something similar. However, she needs an opponent: her son, who has gone underground for years through her fault and whom she lures into a trap to see him again. But then she almost suffocates for real when, of all people, her son has to save her, but not before she regrets what she has done to him.
