TRUE NATURE
By CJ Conway

GENRE: Drama, Adventure
LOGLINE:

A struggling single mother embarks on a healing journey to the amazon and becomes the unlikely owner of an Ayahuasca retreat. Rapid evolution is demanded to outwit her pathological business partners and survive the dangers of the Peruvian jungle where light and dark forces collide.

SYNOPSIS:

Massage therapist and spiritual seeker, MAEVE HEALY, is struggling with her ‘untreatable’ lung

condition, her never ending divorce proceedings, and the painful estrangement from her teenaged

son. Out of the blue she meets charismatic strangers, JESS & ELIJAH who offer her a persuasive

invitation to the Peruvian amazon to heal herself with the plant hallucinogen, Ayahuasca. Desperate

for a cure, and a fresh start following the “end of the world” in 2012, Maeve takes a leap of faith,

travels to the jungle and is introduced to the exotic world of ayahuasca shamanism and ‘extreme

nature’.

Navigating this new world successfully is equal parts physical and metaphysical, each

dimension mirroring the other. LIGHT & DARK FORCES continually collide; love, wonder, miracle

cures, tree spirits, deadly snakes, madness, greed and poverty. The jungle is a constant circularity of

birth and death, eating and shitting, inhaling and exhaling. It’s never clear who is friend or foe.

Maeve is TRANSFORMED by the ayahuasca ceremonies learning that her past emotional traumas

have caused her lung condition. She also learns through ayahuasca that nature, specifically TREES,

have actual voices, and they have a lot to say about humans and the destruction of the planet. She

becomes enchanted with the jungle and with Jess & Elijah. It’s like the heady beginning of a love

affair, together they will change the world.

Maeve is persuaded by them to commit herself and her life’s savings to build an ayahuasca

retreat called MUNDOMORPHO. It’s a noble project that will help people connect to nature and

treat them with plant medicines for things like diabetes and cancer, but also things like depression

and addiction. It will save hundreds of acres of rainforest.

True to its purpose, Mundomorpho becomes a transformative CRUCIBLE for everyone who

encounters it. The challenge of building it, is the making of Maeve into a strong and capable leader.

The construction crew, beset by obstacles GROW and shed their old selves. The indigenous community are blessed and cursed by first world intervention. Her son WILL grows from boy to

man. Once built, the revolving cycle of guests hope for salvation within a culture not their own.

With goals so ideologically perfect, helping so many people and saving the

environment...what goes wrong? Plenty! Especially when Maeve realises her new business partners

are actually sociopaths, she is far from home in a remote, deadly and lawless environment, her ex,

back home is determined to destroy her and she’s unwittingly been harbouring drug mules. Add in

BLACK MAGIC, a corrupt government, drug cartels, 98% humidity, mosquitos and ego annihilating

hallucinogens and it’s enough to send anyone over the edge. In the end, Maeve must dig deep to

overcome all these obstacles and gain control of her dream project or Jess and Elijah will turn

Mundomorpho into a dark cult that entraps and exploits instead of healing.
