THE ELVIS CONSPIRACY
By Rikki Lee Travolta

GENRE: Historical, Drama
LOGLINE:

Intertwining facts and conspiracy theories, this thriller follows Col Tom Parker as he transforms from small time carnival barker to star maker; while a relentless investigative reporter tries to uncover the truth behind what might be the greatest swindle in entertainment history. “Da Vinci Code” meets “Eddie and the Cruisers”

SYNOPSIS:

The story starts with Col. Tom Parker as a side show barker for a carnival. But by night, he works the club scene looking to reimagine himself as a manager to the stars.

Col. Parker finds his meal ticket in a brash young Eddie Bell. Col. Parker signs Eddie to a management contract - promising a record deal and Hollywood movies. However, he can’t seem to deliver because Eddie looks and sounds too much like young up and coming Sun Records artist Elvis Presley (played by the same actor with slightly different prosthetic makeup).

Meanwhile, Sam Phillips, owner of Sun Records, is desperately trying to keep Elvis from flopping. Elvis is a mama’s boy who wants to do religious music that his mother would approve of.

So, Col. Parker devises a plan to meet the needs of all parties. Col. Parker will purchase Elvis’s identity while also buying out his recording contract from Phillips. Eddie Bell will then become Elvis, and the real Elvis will be given a new identity to live out his life outside of the spotlight.

Enter Stan Kupchnik, a young journalist that Col Parker uses to build the image of Elvis in the media. Ever the manipulator, Col. Parker pulls Stan into his web with promises of intimate access to the nation’s heartthrob.

As “Elvis”, Eddie Bell becomes a world-famous crooner. When he is drafted into the army, it seems to be only a minor setback. In fact, while in Germany he even falls in love with a young Priscilla. However, tragedy strikes in Germany when a freak accident leaves him paralyzed from the waist down.

Realizing Eddie/Elvis can no longer perform live, but still has a great singing voice, Col. Parker hires unknown actor Gregory Roth to undergo plastic surgery to portray Elvis in films and in the public eye – the recipe is simple: Eddie records the music and Gregory lip syncs on film. (Gregory is also played by the same actor as Eddie and Elvis, again with slightly different makeup)

Stan is not in on the secret of Elvis’s true identity, but when small inconsistencies start to show up in the lore of Elvis, he begins to suspect there’s more to the story than what Col. Parker is letting on.

Despite Stan’s suspicions, Col. Parker’s plan of a substitute Elvis works for a while. Eventually though, there are complications.

Eddie is falling into deep depression fueled by alcohol and painkiller addiction. And, Gregory gets too big for his britches and threatens to go public with his identity. Col. Parker has no choice but to get rid of Gregory permanently.

Left with no other option to continue the Elvis enterprise, Col. Parker embarks on a journey to find the original Elvis – now living in a small farm community under the name Daniel Blessing.

Coached by Col. Parker, Daniel is reintroduced to the world as Elvis - a Las Vegas headliner.

But now that Daniel is doing his own singing Eddie is entirely useless. He slides deeper into depression, and addiction.

When Eddie/Elvis dies of an unexpected overdose, Col. Parker must pull the plug on the Elvis enterprise and put Daniel out to pasture in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

When Stan finds the recluse Daniel from a Col. Parker deathbed confession, will he finally uncover the truth?

"Are you Elvis Presley?" Stan asks Daniel.

When Daniel replys "No" Stan starts to leave. Then he stops and asks one more question: "Were you ever Elvis Presley?"

Daniel smiles. "Colonel said you might be by," he says, then disapears into the house - leaving the door open for Stan to follow.
