Bianca is an African American tween girl who has been obsessed with princesses since she was little. Little does she know; she is a descendent of royalty herself...

SYNOPSIS:

Bianca Stevens is an eleven-year-old girl, with a strong liking for princesses. She is made fun of by her school friends, who tell her she is too old for it and it’s time to grow up. At school, she is given a project where each student will give a presentation on their favorite hobby or special skills they have. It’s a no-brainer for Bianca, princesses it is. Her mother Amani is a fashion designer, she asks her to help her design a beautiful princess that looks like her. Unfortunately, Amani has also just received a big project at work but promises she will try and pitch in. She starts working on both the projects at the same time, knowing she does not have enough time to spend with her daughter, this is the perfect opportunity to bond with her. Bianca’s father Jason will also build a prototype of a palace to go with the presentation... Bianca is psyched. She knows she will ace this project.

At night, Amani has been telling her daughter a bedtime story about an African princess who had to leave her kingdom with her family. Bianca is very invested in her story and she asks her mother to tell it to her every night. Amani does not tell the whole who story though... the thing is... Amani is the same princess in the story. It’s a secret she has been hiding from her husband and daughter. Amani’s father made his family promise not to ever reveal their identities for their safety. Some people from the kingdom were not too happy about them fleeing. She had kept her word.

Amani is swamped trying to juggle both the projects that she breaks her leg at her job. She has to work from home now. Later, she is taken off the work project because she is behind on schedule, she is devastated... she was hoping once she finished it, a promotion would present itself. This accident works out in Bianca’s favor. Amani has more time now to help her. Jason has been wanting to have another kid for a while now, he brings up the topic again but Amani does not take it well. They have a big fight, which ends in another accident... Amani breaks the prototype Jason had finished. Bianca is resentful towards her, further damaging their already fractured relationship. Because of her frustration, she gets in trouble at school for fighting... she is suspended for a week. She will return in time for the presentation though. Once her parents hear about it, they ground her. Things are not looking up for any of the Stevens family.

Amani gets some words of wisdom from her mother during a venting session. Her mother tells her that she shouldn’t keep hiding the secret from her daughter. She decides it’s time to tell her family. On the day of the project, Bianca is surprised to see her mother, aunt, and grandparents showing up... dressed in traditional wear from her kingdom. Amani tells her story of how her family immigrated because her uncle who was king at the time was unfit to rule. He wanted to wage war on other kingdoms and put their people in danger. Amani’s father did not agree with his method of ruling, he knew it was a matter of time until the kingdom was destroyed and the people in it were. He decided to flee, further angering the king. Her family never looked back. They moved to America.

Bianca realizes she is the daughter of a princess; she is now proud and not afraid of people critiquing her. The family is getting ready for their trip to visit where Amani grew up. Everyone is happy and excited; Amani reveals another big secret... she is pregnant. Jason and Bianca are over the moon, as they hug each other and rejoice over the upcoming addition to the Stevens family.
