WHAT COULD GO WRONG?
By Annelise Gaparasi

GENRE: Romance, Comedy
LOGLINE:

Becca Armstrong believes she may be cursed after her fiancee calls off the wedding and her life is turned upside down. She must track down and make amends with a woman she wronged in the past,  who might have cast a spell on her or her life will never be the same.

SYNOPSIS:

Becca Armstrong is the epitome of the modern woman. She is an interior designer, one of the best in her company. Becca's mother, Adrienne, wants her to find a good man and settle down, not just with anybody. Thus, she has turned down every guy she took an interest in. Adrienne is the decision-maker in her life; her opinion is the only one that matters. Anthony Armstrong is the son of the Lee family, who owns one of California's biggest retailers, Lee's Grocers. Anthony is a serial monogamist, much to his parents' dismay. His relationship with his father, Jack, is estranged as he disapproves of his hippie lifestyle, the many women, and the fact that he doesn't want to be part of the family empire. Jack offers him a new condo in Santa Barbara to rehabilitate his image. Anthony is sent to Becca. Initially, she is hesitant but is influenced by her mother to work with him. As she starts working with Anthony, Adrienne coaches her on how to seduce him and possibly earn a date. Becca tells a few lies to him to appear as his type. Hoping to get his father off his back, Anthony gives it a shot. Eventually, they start dating. Things start looking up; she meets his parents and even gets the approval of Jack. After being introduced to the high society circle, her business scales even faster; Adrienne is over the moon.

After the condo has been furnished, there is a housewarming party. With everyone gathered for the occasion, Jack pulls Anthony aside, advising him to pop the big question that night. Anthony hesitates, but his father convinces him to, even giving him a ring. He proposes in front of everyone, and Becca says yes.

It's the day of the wedding. Becca has become a bridezilla, wanting everything to be perfect. Once they arrive at the venue, chaos begins. From getting her cycle to a fight breaking between two guests, one of the bridesmaids tripping on the cake, and Becca falling flat on her face as she walks down the aisle. Anthony decides to call the wedding off. He has a heart-to-heart conversation with her, letting her know the main reason he was about to get married was his father, to gain his approval and respect. They break up. After days of staying in bed and avoiding everyone, Becca tries to put the pieces together about how she ended up being dumped on her big day. She lands on one theory. While in college, drunk Becca and her friends took a cab from a woman named Kora Lamine. Kora was chasing the love of her life as he was about to leave. Becca rudely stole the cab Kora was about to get in. The woman curses Becca, letting her know that the universe never forgets our wrongdoings. Becca brushed it off, though.

Kora was feared in her apartments; people believed she was a voodoo queen because of her appearance. Becca starts looking for Kora, hoping she will reverse the curse. Becca finds out Kora has moved to Alaska. She gets on a flight to see her. Once Becca has located her, she pleads with her and asks for forgiveness. Kora reveals that she never cursed her; it was only a moment of anger. She returns home. Kora finally traces David's whereabouts; he's in the hospital battling lung cancer. Kora's mother never approved of David due to his class. In the nineties, she persuaded her daughter to marry a well-off man who could care for her despite Kora being in love with David. That didn't stop David from showing up on her wedding day, proposing to whisk her away to Italy. Kora turned him down. After her husband passes, David reappears, asking her to marry him. Kora hesitates initially but finally decides it's time to give their love a chance. She misses him, though, because of Becca. Kora spends David's last days by his side.

Once she returns home, Adrienne is already talking about setting her up on dates. Fed up with her mother always controlling her decisions, she has an honest conversation with her. She tells Adrienne it was never about being cursed; she was going through with the wedding for all the wrong reasons. After a big fight, Becca tells her mother to back off and let her live her life for once. Adrienne agrees to not meddle in her life so much. They make up. One night, Becca shows up at Anthony's house. She asks him to start over. She suggests going on a first date again. This time, there would be no expectations, false identity, or hidden agenda, just two people getting to know each other. Anthony agrees.
