Now adapt to the living conditions imposed by a national lockdown as a result of a virus pandemic, it is a normal weekend for Keke as she receives the weekly online supermarket delivery. When she finds a treasure map (topped with a red ribbon) of her local town tucked away under the dried pasta, she follows her curiosity and immediately packs her bag ready for the exciting venture ahead. However, when Keke’s younger brother Oscar (7) wakes to see her planning to leave without him, he convinces her to let him join. She leads their way through their quaint village centre and into a farmer’s field, where they must jump over an irrigation ditch; something that Oscar nearly falls into. Keke is a Scout and her preparedness proves handy as she uses her packed items such as a pocket knife and torch to help her pass various obstacles along her travels. The path continues as it takes the siblings over wide hills and through a dense forest, but all hardship is proven worthy when they reach the spot marked ‘X’ and the creators of the map are discovered.
The world is reminiscent of the first lockdown caused by COVID-19 in the Spring/Summertime of 2020. People are working from home, children study from their living rooms, and food deliveries are brought to your front door. This backward world offered the British public a unique opportunity. People were forced to forget about their hectic lives chasing a nine to five job. Instead, the family became the number one thing on the average mind. This is the case with our sister and brother as they embark on their exploration in the British countryside through the adventuring eyes of children.
