The experiences of a university student’s first day devoutly wearing the hijab proves to be more challenging and diverse than she first expected when friends and strangers begin to see her differently.

Adeela (20) starts her day by caringly dressing her head with an under scarf and covering her hair with a hijab. Today is the first day she is choosing to devoutly wear the hijab. With no plans on taking it off in public ever again, today marks a turning point for her identity as a Muslim, her university career, and her personal relationship with a society that judges people for looking different.

Adeela must navigate her way through difficult interactions with passing strangers in the street, close friends harbouring conservative views on women's rights and the wearing of the hijab, and a change in attitude from regular customers at her father’s shop. Who knew being yourself could be so difficult? But with the help of her conviction and best friend, Adeela will see that she has the strength to stand up for her beliefs.

The world is set within the life of a modern British university student. Her life revolves around studying, working part-time hours, and socialising with friends. However, this world is flipped upside down and racist undertones are revealed when she enters it wearing a hijab.
