FLASHES OF LIGHTNING

FLASHES OF LIGHTNING
By Craige Cronin

GENRE: Historical, Drama
LOGLINE:

The life of the world’s first superstar, Edmund Kean, his rise to fame and tumultuous life, is juxtaposed with the modern superstar, Nick Lathuro, who will play him in the biographical film.

SYNOPSIS:

Before Brecht, before Stanislavski, when did modern, naturalistic acting begin? One man, now almost forgotten, gave us this gift. His name was Edmund Kean, he was the world's first superstar, and this is his remarkable story.

Born to a prostitute mother and a drunken father, Kean was never able to shake off the shame of his humble beginnings, and in fact rebelled against the snobbery of the upper class. He was highly ego-driven, a renowned drunkard, a womanizer, and indulged in all forms of outrageous behavior. When he toured America the audience burnt the theater he was in to the ground. But such was his power on stage, he was still acknowledged as the greatest actor in the Empire. This, while being a short and plain-looking man, the antithesis of the tragedian actor of the era.

In the modern era, Nick Lathuro, Kean incarnate, is equally despised and loved. But both men have one saving grace - that they greatly advanced the art of acting.
