Larch and his friends face special challenges every day at Sprite School and in the process, learn about friendship, cooperation, and how to protect and care for the forest ecosystem.
SYNOPSIS:
8-year-old Larch is a little mushroom sprite who has a big heart but low self-confidence. At Sprite School, his friends want Larch to help build a potato bug village and we come to learn how each sprite has a unique talent related to the forest ecosystem, such as growing plants, fungi or flowers, manipulating water or the sun and communicating with animals or bugs. But when Larch’s potato bug structure keeps tumbling down, he is ready to give up.
Their energetic sprite teacher, calls them into the classroom and gives them their challenge of the day - to save a struggling 100-year-old tree; they must find the problem, what’s causing the distress, and solve it. Deeper in the forest, one sprite uses her skills of locating mycelium (underground branching fungus) to figure out which tree is sending out an SOS. Their bird friends help fly them to the treetops and they discover the treetop is dry and turning yellow. They then ask a family of Pacific Fishers who live in the tree what’s causing the problem - but Larch, doesn’t feel confident enough yet to talk to the Fishers.
