A closeted transgender woman rises from the dead. Her return is treated like a miracle until she decides to embrace all that she repressed when she was alive.
SYNOPSIS:
Dead Name
Avil, born “Albany”, is dead. She died deep in the closet, assigned male at birth and never came out publicly as trans. As soon as she’s laid to rest, she opens her eyes and finds herself trapped in a casket. She forces herself out of the grave, ready to return home. Afraid her appearance may upset her parents- especially after developing a taste for flesh- she opts to hide out with her best friend Tobin.
Having died a man she vows to live as a woman. Unable to feel anything but the most extreme pain, it’s not difficult for her to modify her body. She can simply cut away what she doesn’t like, and staple on that which she does want.
Tobin agrees to help her, but has very clear ideas of what sort of woman he thinks she should be. He tricks her into staying with him, cuts off communication, and exploits her own insecurity. By becoming physically and romantically available to her, he tries to convince her that he’s actually giving her what she’s always wanted.
But as Avil changes her body, so does her understanding of the people around her. She pushes back when she learns that he’s been keeping her letters meant for those on the outside to himself. In a fit of rage, she nearly kills him, before escaping.
Avil tries to put her life back together, something that won’t come easy. She can’t simply step back into the life she had- one she despised- as the woman she was becoming. Rather than faith or familial loyalty she seeks out excitement, pleasure, and a bit of decadence. All the while holding back a desire that scares even her.
