PARALLELS MAY CROSS
By Alexander Kalinkin

GENRE: Thriller, Romance
LOGLINE:

A freelance programmer rents a cottage, but it seems like the house itself tries to make the new tenant move out. Trying to calm down the unseen forces, the guy feels more and more sympathy to their secretive source.

SYNOPSIS:

CYRIL (30), a programmer freelancer, rents an apartment. He can't get rid of a feeling that someone else lives in the same place. From time to time his things just disappear. Some rustles and creaks are heard here and there. It seems that the apartment is trying to make Cyril move out of here.

Cyril studies the whole place but in vain. He can't reach only the balcony. It's simply closed, but nothing special is seen from the window. Meanwhile he receives a pizza that has been ordered for a lady residing exactly in this apartment. Cyril says it's a mistake, but the courier insists. Cyril takes the pizza and leaves it in his room, but soon the pizza disappears. He examines the whole apartment again.

Trying to make a contact, Cyril orders flowers for the unseen girl to his own address and puts a note inside. The flowers stand untouched but since then the apartment stops fighting Cyril.

One day the guy receives an invitation to an art exhibition, titled “Parallel Worlds”. The sender is unknown. In this exhibition Cyril finds his own portrait. He also finds the author's portrait and falls in love with her. Cyril witnesses a talk between a journalist and the exhibition administrator. He introduces himself as a journalist, either, and arranges an interview with the artist. However, only a virtual chat is possible. The time is very inconvenient for Cyril. It's too early in the morning.

Hardly awaken, Cyril rushes to his computer and finds a cup of hot coffee on the table. At last, the artist shows up in the chat. They talk, and talk, and talk. They have so much in common. However, she refuses to meet him in person.

After this talk Cyril falls asleep. The door bell wakes him up. The hostess and a police officer come in. The officer checks his visa and asks if anyone else lives in here. There has been a call from the Migration Service. Cyril says nothing about his suspicion. After this visit, all strange events stop happening.

One day Cyril sets an antenna nearby the window, randomly opens it and gets into the balcony. The balcony turns out to be a small room. The artist's portrait hangs on the wall. He brings the picture into the apartment. Later when the hostess sees it, she confesses that it's been her relative from Mexico. She should move out of the USA, but she was waiting for her exhibition. As Cyril likes working at nights, she likes working at mornings, so they manage to share the same apartment and not to cross.
