GUTTERBALLS
By Dave Eisenstark

GENRE: Independent, Comedy
LOGLINE:

Two hapless sewer workers save the local bowling alley, shut down an unscrupulous lender, and redeem themselves in the eyes of their small community

A story of hope, redemption and personal hygiene.

SYNOPSIS:

Durky, a lovable drain cleaner, thinks he's found enlightenment in a self-help book abandoned in a portable toilet. His newfound wisdom is soon tested at the bowling alley, where he and co-worker Handy bowl against the town bully, Jason Mason. But this isn't just any game--if Jason doesn't win, he'll call in the loan that keeps the sanitation business afloat, and the two buddies will lose the love of the women in their lives.

Unable to bring himself to throw the game, (and with his wife turning tricks at a nearby truck-stop), Handy tries to light himself on fire. Durky saves Handy but now Durky has the impossible responsibility of keeping his best friend alive.

Handy orchestrates a series of sewer blockages (The Hendrick Maneuver) designed to blow Jason Mason's car lot to kingdom come. Durky, filled with self-help "positivitiness" (among other things) sabotages Handy's scheme. Nevertheless, using superior knowledge of the sewer system and a couple of well-placed "gutter" balls, Handy succeeds in blasting human excrement all over Jason's inventory.

But the bowling alley--the single oasis in the sewer workers' miserable lives--stands in the urine-stained path of the monster Handy has unleashed.

Durky and Handy face down "Turdzilla," the largest blockage ever witnessed. With the promise of the town's everlasting love (and sex!) and the forgiveness of Jason's loan spurring them on, Durky and Handy are forced to use explosives. The blast coats the area with a brown frosting and an unholy stench, but the bowling alley is saved. Durky finds redemption, Handy wins back his business and his wayward wife, and the basic tenets of the self-help book, in a round-about way, prove themselves worthwhile after all.
