SYNOPSIS:

SYNOPSIS

From the opening image of the earth in space as a giant butterfly, and Horse Woman riding in over the wings to rescue 3 small children from a massacre, we enter a fantastical universe. A huge explosion kills Margaret and literally blows businessman Kelebek out of his uptown office, and into a world changed by political violence and environmental destruction.

Kelebeck unknowingly walking over the wings of the Earth-Butterfly, arrives exhausted, disheveled in a desolate city and the appalling state of this city/nation is made clear to him. He flees after meeting Ian, Margaret’s sardonic, desperate brother.

Meanwhile, Horse Woman and the Children have arrived in a beautiful forest meadow, where Horse Woman peacefully passes. On a big empty theatre/stage space, - a blank canvas – she ‘wakes’ to meet her child self she had lost touch with many years ago and together they go to the Nowhere.

Kelebeck runs in over the now torn up wings of the Butterfly arriving in the same empty stage-like place, where there he meets Farfalla, young woman seated on the floor. An intense exchange, concerning the meaning of words, fear, grief, courage, hope, butterflies and souls, reveals they both have names that mean Butterfly. They create circle from a bag of pebbles, she tells him to find his own story and as she leaves the circle the pebbles become butterflies.

Kelebeck stands on the edge of an abyss, choking in the filthy air. He is about to jump when the Children appear in a shower of butterflies persuading him to step onto Earth-Butterfly wings. A kaleidoscopic journey ejects him into a desolate world where meets Ian again who forces him to face death - perhaps also his own.

Horse Woman challenges him to return to the world to do the work that needs to be done there. He resists her, feeling powerless, despairing and exhausted. She reunites him with his Child-self and his capacity to feel love returns and with that also hope.

Farfalla emerges from Horse Woman herself. They are one and the same. Together they show him the power of thinking beyond our reality, letting go of having to know everything before we act and then flying into our life. nKelebeck and his Child leave on the Earth-Butterfly, Horse Woman, Farfalla, their Child and the three Children who survived the massacre wave them good-bye.
