OUT OF MY DREAMS

OUT OF MY DREAMS
By Gila Zalon

GENRE: Drama
LOGLINE:

In this magical realism saga, a successful interior designer questioning her life choices, plunges into the fantastical world of her reoccurring dreams, in search of the type of satisfaction that has eluded her in her waking life.

SYNOPSIS:

Sheila is married to Barry, her college boyfriend. Barry’s ambition has always been to be a successful businessman, and is working his way up in a real estate development firm.

Sheila was an art major, and, to accommodate Barry’s way of life, she has started an interior design business.

While designing an apartment for a young couple who are about to have a baby, Sheila begins to question what she really wants out of life. In her dreams she encounters an old Victorian House, which harbors, in its attic, a bright charming kitchen, a motherly older woman, and the life she subconsciously yearns for—personal creativity, warmth and understanding, and peace.

As her dream life reaches deeper and deeper into her subconscious mind, she continues to walk through her life. She designs the young couple’s new apartment with special attention to their baby’s room. Does Sheila want to experience motherhood?

Her subconscious takes over when she purchases items at a crafty art shop — but has no memory of it whatsoever. Part of her believes she would never go near such a place. Does Sheila yearn to be a free spirit?

She modernizes an old Victorian House for an older couple who want to please their daughter. Does this conflict with Sheila’s artistic sense?

She pleases her ambitious husband by designing the country home of the successful Real Estate developer for whom he works. Is this how she wants to spend her life?

She listens to her husband’s self-absorbed meanderings about his future success and fortunes. Does she really care?

She mulls over the grievances and interests of her closest friends and wonders which, if any, of their lives is she most aligned with.

Finally, her dreams become so real to her that she disappears from life altogether and her dreams and reality become one. Her husband, in despair, searches everywhere for her but, because he has never truly recognized who she was, he passes her by with no sign of recognition.
