THE LUCKY LADY MASSACRE
By Pat Semler

GENRE: Horror
LOGLINE:

Overwhelmed by multiple personal catastrophes, a veteran stunt actress snaps when she’s aged out of her job by a jealous rival and takes revenge on the people who wronged her.

SYNOPSIS:

The story is set in a Sacremento abandoned gold mining town turned theme park. Legend has it that the Black Bart gang swept in and killed all the miners. They were killed in turn by Indians and the mine is supposed to be haunted. Perfect for the new Halloween haunted house maze going in.

Our protagonist, Maggie Sullivan was just 20 when she put a promising acting career on hold to care for ailing parents, first her father, now her mother. She took a job at Lucky Lady’s stunt show to be close to the nursing home. 25 years later she’s queen of the stunt show but stuck in a rut of family duty and a steady paycheck.

Lulu Gomez (38) was a dancer in the show. With more ambition than talent she was always in Maggie’s shadow and blamed Maggie for every lost opportunity. But now she’s seduced her way into management and as the new show director it’s time for some payback.

Lulu dangles Maggie’s contract like a carrot as the show is revamped for parkour stunts and young, really young, talent, making Maggie fight to maintain her contract.

Maggie vents a simmering frustration in doodling graphic novel style death scenes. She’s hit with more money problems. Mom’s nursing home wants a big outlay. Her out-of-work husband David has put a lien on her house for a get rich quick scheme. And when she calls old Hollywood contacts for jobs, its – Who are you? How old are you? What have you done recently?

Maggie is forced to a new contract working in the haunted house as a lowly scareactor. Her mother passes away just hours after the ink is dry. But the CEO refuses to nullify the contract. Maggie’s doodles can’t cope with a deepening depression, even starting to take over her waking life.

When Maggie overhears Lulu gloating over how she manipulated everyone into sabotaging Maggie, her sanity snaps and the doodles become the blueprint for revenge in an unused part of the haunted house maze.

Disguised as Black Bart, Maggie traps Lulu and her enablers in the maze, killing with irony. A predator has his hands lopped off. The vain new stunt coordinator is led into a noose and unsteady footing ala Tuco in The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Her husband is gutted by an axe hit, so only Lulu is left.

A bitch fight takes them both to the brink of sanity and a deep fault in the mine floor. Maggie gets the last laugh and shoves Lulu into the hole. Spent, depressed, Maggie heads out only to find one victim not quite dead. Her humanity rekindles and she gets him up to where he can be found before she disappears into the night. The ghost of Black Bart has struck again.
