SYNOPSIS:

Tom and Julie Campbell are world-renowned scientific authors, steadfast in their stance that all paranormal phenomena can be reduced to natural causes. But after delivering a stirring lecture at a local university on the myth of haunted houses, they cross paths with an unconvinced housewife desperate for answers and fearing for her family’s safety. Curious, they agree to check it out and soon find themselves in a remote Quaker village where the townspeople are all too eager to make their acquaintance. When they arrive at the house in question, an old Victorian manor inhabited by a pious couple and their four devout children, they jump to a familiar conclusion. But this is no ordinary house. Doors slam, lights flicker, and objects drag magically across the floor. Unsure exactly what they’ve gotten themselves into, for the first time in their storied careers they begin to doubt their doubt. And when the specter of a murdered child appears before their eyes, they resort to a tactic they could never have imagined: enlisting a team of ghost hunters to assist them. The “experts” move in with their high tech surveillance equipment and EMF meters and quickly start dying. But when Tom accidentally witnesses the last casualty, he makes a startling discovery: this haunted house is nothing but an elaborate hoax, and even the kids are in on it! Now the couple must fight to stay alive. It’s a battle of wits—and gore—against a psychotic family bent on punishing them for their non-belief.
