7 DAYS IN AUGUST
By Erik Odin Johnson

GENRE: Romance, Comedy
LOGLINE:

During 7 Days in August a couple of high school crushes fall in love (again) during a tragic time. Their friends have gathered for his mother’s funeral, but the event is so tragic in his mind that his memory is blocking most of it out. He’s having flashbacks to their youth, and wakes up each day not knowing what happened the night before.

SYNOPSIS:

Elliot and Sophia were in love with each other in high school but neither of them knew it. So they went their separate ways after school.

10 years later Elliot’s mother passes away. The traumatic experience makes Elliot momentarily forget it even happened. His friends come in from out of town and get together for 7 days in August prior to the funeral, to celebrate their friendship and to support him during the tragic time.

He’s binge-drinking and doesn’t even realize what’s going on, or why they’re really there.

Each day he wakes up and forgets what happened the night before. He and his high school crush Sophia start to rekindle their close bond. Each of his blackout-flashbacks takes him back to high school events; from following in his prominent mother’s political life as a State Senator, to skipping school with Sophia and parties with their high school friends’ group.

As their relationship starts to build again, he realizes that maybe this event has brought them together to understand the one thing his mother always told them- friendships are all that matter in life.

When he finally snaps out of it and realizes his mother has actually passed, he also understands that it’s time to move on with his life.

After the funeral, the friends go back to their lives, to let him cope with his mother's death.

As an accomplished musician he decides to dive back into it and ultimately chooses to move to NYC, not knowing that is exactly where Sophia lives.

They discover themselves now living in the same city, and he’s surprised to find out that Sophia has a 5-year-old daughter too.

Something extraordinary brought them together for those 7 days in August, now it’s brought them closer for the rest of their lives.
