BOISE BOYZ
By Andrew Michael Tarr

GENRE: Music, Comedy
LOGLINE:

When a teen podcaster meets an aging "has-been" boy-band singer, he sees his chance to break into the music biz - the same industry that destroyed his new idol's life.

SYNOPSIS:

Zak Schwartz lives with his single mom in a modest apartment in Boise. He’s 15 years old. He looks 15, in all 15’s awkwardness. And he feels 15. Except when he’s behind the mic that dangles over his bedroom computer. At the mic, he transforms into a very skillful Vlogger with a growing local following of other 15 year old boys. But that’s about to change.

Zak’s friend Cole lives in another apartment building up the street, and Cole has a very interesting new neighbor: Disgraced former pop star, Randy D of turn of the century sensations, The Boise Boyz. The once globally beloved boy band dissolved years ago and Randy’s bandmates are all massively successful. Randy, on the other hand, is back in Boise, in Zak’s friend’s modest apartment building.

Zak’s other avocation is Band Manager for Cole’s band, Beatstone. That’s why Cole forcefully nudges Zak to interview Randy D for his Vlog. Any exposure is good exposure. Randy D is a bit of a train wreck, but he was also once famous. Zak’s not crazy about the idea. But once he acquieces and sits down with the fallen idol, he finds a real connection with the man. Perhaps that’s why the interview goes viral, and his Vlog’s subscribers skyrocket.

Meanwhile Beatstone is, at manager Zak’s recommendation, submitting an audition for the TV music competition show, Bandapalooza. And Zak persuades none other than Randy D to drop by the studio to help the young musicians prepare their audition. Zak gets it all on tape, and when the time comes to upload Beatstone’s audition video, he “accidentally” uploads footage of the band singing and dancing with Randy D. That little stunt lands them an invitation to compete in Season 6 of Bandapalooza, with the requirement that Randy D is part of the band - a potential ratings bonanza for the show.

Will Randy’s return to the music industry be a disaster or the comeback of the century? Either way, 15 year old Zak is at the epicenter.
