About Rodney

Rodney Kimbangu is a Congolese Filmmaker based in Berea, Kentucky. He works part-time at Berea College where he’ll graduate in May 2020 and attended the New York Film Academy in LA in the summer of 2018. Hungry to learn more and make meaningful art, Rodney has taken Masterclasses in Directing, Filmmaking, Documentary, Photography, Performing and Acting with Martin Scorsese, Ron Howard, Spike Lee, Ken Burns, Andrew St. Pierre White, Annie Liebovitz, Raymond Usher, Christina Aguilera, and Samuel L. Jackson.

He's directed Future shock, Forever in Motion (a semi-finalist at the Los Angeles CineFest), and Enlightened, all student films. In addition, his recent release Lituka, a personal project that focuses on the lives of entrepreneurial young people in the Congo (DRC), has already made it to its first film festival.

To start his filmmaking journey while he had no clue how he'd make it, Rodney learned to draw, sculpt, dance, paint, and photography to keep his creative mind active. He is inspired by dreams and the human condition; he often wakes up on portions of scenes that he quickly writes on sticky notes. While looking forward to working in a movie with Will Smith and Tom Cruise, he is currently making “The Richest Places,” his capstone project.

  • Unfulfilled

    Unfulfilled (2020)
Film (short) by Rodney Kimbangu (Drama) Writer, Producer, Director, Cinematographer, Editor Ava is a rude, entitled millennial artist who thinks the world revolves around her. She always thinks the worse of people and definitely wears her heart on her sleeve. When she gets herself into an accident that puts her face to face with her unfulfilled potentials in limbo, they turn into the demons she created when she was alive. Trying to get her to understand how rude she is, but also hoping she will fulfill them, they toy with her and give her the scare of her life. Because she is biased against the potential that manifests as masculine, the one that manifests as feminine treats her much like she treated the masculine potential, with disdain and disrespect. Though she fulfills one of them, her hesitation and doubt prevent her from seeing how she still did not fulfill all of them.
