TV Series Pitch Document Writing Lab (One on One Mentoring)

The writing lab is full. If you have any questions, contact edu@stage32.com By popular demand, we're bringing in TV executive Anna Henry (who has 100% satisfaction with her webinars!) to teach a one-on-one TV pitch document writing lab! Need help with writing your TV series pitch document? Look no further! Anna's here to help.  "I thought it was a great course and really helped me understand the format. Anna is knowledgeable and quickly cuts through to what can help your story better. Her notes on my script were insightful and really demonstrated her thorough experience." - Lee L. "Anna’s class was by far the most thorough, well put together, and organized screenwriting class I’ve ever taken. I have an MFA in filmmaking and, after graduating, I still felt as if I didn’t fully understand the structure of pilot writing. Anna’s class laid it out step by step and she went through every piece in detail. She was also extremely available to her students. During our one-on-one sessions, I expected to have a quick 15 minute call with her but she ended up speaking extensively with me about my story from outline through script stages. She really, truly cares for her students and is there to answer any questions, which, given her abundant experience in the industry, is a priceless piece of her labs. Thank you, Anna!" - Jacqueline D. "Anna was concise, and detailed. I've been working on log-lines/treatments/synopsis for 2 years for my scripts and never had it nailed like Anna was able to do. She rocks!" - Cheryl Lynn S. This is the golden age of television and the appetite for content has never been greater. What does everyone network and streamer want? Fresh, unique, authentic voices with never-been-told stories. While the door is open to new writers, the competition is fierce. Of course you need a very strong finished script, but before that will be read, you need to be able to communicate what makes your show stand out from the crowd, what will make people want to watch it for years and years, and why you are passionate about writing it. You need a blueprint of what the series will be beyond one episode. That's where a pitch document (aka bible, aka treatment) comes in. Whether you are selling your show verbally, sending the pitch to a potential producer, or applying for a fellowship, this document carries the weight of your imagined world with all its inhabitants and stories. That's a tall order! So where do you begin? How do you organize your ideas? What should be in a pitch? How detailed should you get? Should you start with a summary of the pilot? Should you have ideas for future episodes? What should you say about your characters? In this lab we will delve deep into writing an effective pitch for your scripted television idea - one that will clearly communicate your intentions, excite the reader, and convey your voice and your passion. I have spent my career developing television projects with writers and selling those show ideas as a development executive, manager and producer. What I have found is that most screenwriters have taken classes that helped them learn about story structure, writing scenes, dialogue, etc. but writing a pitch is entirely different. Most writers need help with switching gears and selling their story in addition to telling it - which is the purpose of this lab.   Payment plans are available - contact edu@stage32.com for more details

How You Can Keep A Clear Vision Throughout Your Film

Learn from a filmmaker whose films have been distributed by HBO, Starz, and Entertainment One, and explore case studies of how professional filmmakers maintain their vision through their award-winning films. You've made it through development and pre-production and it's time to direct your feature film or TV episode. You have a plan in mind and a clear and unified vision that will be expressed in each and every fame.  But once you’re on set, things can move and change fast. As everyone is coming to you with hundreds of questions about every creative choice, you must be prepared so that you maintain your consistent vision throughout. This is why it's so important to develop a filtering process that is flexible enough to adjust to obstacles but strong enough to process the many choices that you make from now through your film’s release.  In this exclusive Stage 32 webinar, you’ll learn four distinct filtering processes that every filmmaker needs to know to manage the responsibilities that come with directing while maintaining a unified vision to deliver an effective story, all while highlighting your unique point of view. In addition to learning these filters and how to apply them, you’ll also explore case studies through well-known, award-winning films and television series. Guiding you through this process is acclaimed filmmaker Jesse Wolfe, whose films have been distributed worldwide by HBO, Starz, and Entertainment One and has worked with Warner Bros., Castle Rock Entertainment, ABC Television, Disney Channel, AMC, and Showtime Networks. He’s also mentored over 2,000 film projects, including official Sundance, Cannes, Tribeca, and SXSW selections and award winners. By the end of this webinar, you’ll know a tried-and-true process to create a cohesive film that has been developed by an acclaimed filmmaker and mentor that you can use immediately to bring your vision to life. Praise for Jesse's Talent & Knowledge: “I have known Jesse for over twenty years, ever since we were Fellows together at AFI, and from those first film school encounters all the way to the present I have known him to be a person of quality: a good friend, a talented film and television professional and a dedicated teacher…” -- Patty Jenkins (director WONDER WOMAN) “Anyone who has been in this business for a significant amount of time knows that there is a lot of talk and a lot less action, but Jesse has proven himself to be one of those rare people who can and does follow through. He takes his talents and passions and combines them with discipline and generosity to bring excellence to any endeavor he is associated with. He is also happy to share his experiences and knowledge, particularly with younger/newer filmmakers and goes out of his way to help friends and colleagues with their own creative pursuits…” -- Pilar Alessandra (The Coffee Break Screenwriter/On The Page) “From the first day I saw him interact with students I knew he was going to be a valuable faculty asset. His wealth of knowledge and expertise in all areas of film and television production, from writing and script development, on set production and post theory was immediately evident, and students responded to his mentoring with enthusiasm. Their work immediately improved. Thesis films began to show thought out stories and performances became truthful and layered. Shot designs were designed not just to “look cool” but had a purpose…” -- Jon Alvord (VFX Supervisor “X-Men”, “The Player”)

How To Make Your Feature Film in 15 Days + Get An Example Shooting Schedule, Call Sheet, and Deal Memo Checklist!

Learn how to make your feature film on the types of low budgets and tight schedules that so many distributors demand from a director, producer, and writer who has worked with Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, Discovery, and Lifetime If you can make a feature film in 15 days or less you have an enormous edge in today's entertainment industry.  The rise and dominance of streaming platforms in the last ten years has resulted in a massive spike in the number of films made, acquired and distributed each year. Streaming services like Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, Disney+, and Apple, just to name a few, have joined Hallmark, Lifetime and NBC as outlets hungry for high quality, lower budget feature films. This has made it much easier for experienced as well as first time filmmakers to get their films a green light to production or distribution so they share their work with mass audiences. The bottom line is that these platforms need content, and filmmakers like yourself need to be ready to give it to them! However, this increase in demand for films hasn’t come without its own set of challenges. In today’s world of streaming, there is an immense amount of pressure on filmmakers to make their films quickly on a lower budget and deliver a final product very shortly after production wraps. Making films quickly and efficiently has become commonplace for many directors and producers and that skill set translates to work. Making your film in a short amount of time is critical if you want your project bought, licensed or distributed by on of these outlets. However, this is no easy task. In this exclusive on-demand Stage 32 Webinar, you will learn the crucial tools to make a top-notch film in just 15 days from veteran director, producer, and writer Stacia Crawford. Stacia has made over a dozen feature films and directed/produced multiple episodes of television, with her work premiering on Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, Amazon, Lifetime, Discovery, and Hallmark. She has spent countless hours deep in the filmmaking trenches and will provide you with the know-how to prep, shoot, and edit your film under both time and budget constraints. Stacia will share her filmmaking best practices with you to utilize in today’s rapid filmmaking landscape. The biggest hurdle in making your film on a short schedule (oftentimes just 15 days!) is keeping the production quality high and the price point low. In a perfect world, you’ll have many months to complete your film and even have some built in time for reshoots. However, this is rarely the case these days. Knowing how to shoot a high caliber film in a short amount of time (most likely on a small budget) is essential in today’s film marketplace. You will walk away from this webinar with the framework to make a quality film in 15 days or less on a tight budget! PLUS! Stacia will provide you with exclusive handouts to help on your own projects. Downloads include: Mock shooting schedule  Example call sheet Checklist of what to look out for in deal memos  Praise for Stacia's Work & Talent: “Stacia is so down to earth as an instructor, I learned more in 90 minutes than I did in an entire semester of film school!" - Joseph C. "Clear, concise and to the point. Production is so difficult and Stacia helped me realize I can make a good movie." - Chris H.
