About Maria

Award-winning Director, Screenwriter, Producer, & Actress. The Founder of an independent film production company in Chicago, mostly Asian American filmmakers.

Maria was born and raised in the Philippines. She moved to the US in her early adulthood. As an immigrant, it was a struggle to fit in, and it took her a while to settle into her new home. Her overcoming abuse, criticism, and racial hate makes her who she is, a brave & strong woman. Maria is standing tall against all odds.

Her projects have been recognized and won various awards at over 280 film festivals circuit around the world. A former President of the Chicago Eagles Wings Lions Club & a recipient of an exemplary community service certificate from Asian American Coalition of Chicago. She is also the founder of the newly-formed No Small Potatoes Foundation (501c3). A non-profit organization that advocates mental health awareness to help underserved communities everywhere.

This passionate & dedicated filmmaker was highlighted along with her peers in 2020 as one of the emerging female filmmakers in Chicago. And was one of the invited speakers at the 2019 Period Day Rally.

Maria wears many hats. From writing, directing, producing, acting, running her company and so much more. She continues to master her crafts and thrive in the industry she fell in love with. Her willingness to go above and beyond to get things done is one of her strong suits. Without a doubt, she not stop learning & will continue to work harder to make her dreams a reality and will always be a student of life. Her favorite quote is; "Success is earned, not given."

LOGLNE: In what was supposed to be an exciting time at the forest preserve, the nature video blogger runs into a scary situation that leaves her on the ground, bleeding to death. SYNOPSIS: Tanya Lopez, a nature photographer. She’s known and respected in her community and is taking her career to the next level. She is transitioning to video blogging like everyone in her community, capitalizing on her talent. One cold, bright day, Tanya is excited to start her very first on-site video blog. She packs her equipment and drives to the nearest forest preserve, capturing the beautiful nature in the middle of the winter season. Tanya walks around the preserve, enjoying her surroundings, and finds the perfect spot to vlog. As she is setting up her equipment, she is startled upon hearing a familiar sound that she did not anticipate. The blogger quietly walks away to investigate and is terrified at what she’s witnessing. She is shaking and runs swiftly away from danger, but she fails.  Will she survive the hellish nightmare that she's about to endure? SYNOPSIS: A convicted felon, Luna Doe, was charged with double homicide for killing her unborn twins. She insists that she’s innocent since the twins are cyborgs implanted inside her to kill everyone. And that she intends to save humanity from extinction. Instead of imprisoning Luna while waiting for her trial, the state ordered her to be admitted to Bradley Institution, a mental health facility for dangerous criminals, for a psychiatric evaluation. Luna remained quiet, not talking to anyone until Jacob Shaw, the state-appointed defense lawyer for her, showed up, handling the riveting case. The convicted felon trusted her new attorney. She's been recognized for her unique writing style and has received various prestigious awards, earning respect from her peers. Brenna is proud and grateful for what she has accomplished. And keeps pushing herself toward her big goal of winning the coveted Oscars. She will not stop until she achieves it. One recent life-changing event shook Brenna’s world apart. LOGLINE: The ornament brings miracles to the struggling mother and son and will unite the son with the grandmother he never met. SYNOPSIS: The undocumented immigrant mother to an autistic boy, Josephine Bautista, works as a caregiver for seniors. The unprecedented pandemic that shook the whole world left Josephine and her son homeless. Thanks to her friend, Terah, for taking them in temporarily. Regardless of all the obstacles, the mother is optimistic that everything will be get better.. Daniel was diagnosed with autism when he was little. Despite his condition, he has a happy outlook on life. His father left when he was a baby. Josephine takes on the role of mother and father to her son.  The only thing Daniel has from his father is the wooden ornament reindeer that his mother gave him, and he wears it as a necklace. The teen always has his reindeer with him wherever he goes. Little did he know that the wooden ornament would turn their lives around for the better.
