About Adam

Adam Branson is a writer, visual artist, and educator based in Washington Heights, New York. Originally from a small town in Florida, he moved to New York City to study photography at the School of Visual Arts. His work explores perception, context, and privacy in public spaces.

After college, Adam volunteered as a teacher in Uganda before returning to the United States to join the NYC Teaching Fellows program. Since receiving his Masters in the Science of Education with a focus on special education in urban schools from the City College of New York, Adam has taught in Manhattan, the Bronx, Spain, Italy, and India.

Adam was a devout member of the Mormon church, but had to eventually confront the reality of his sexuality and mental health. After a spiritual discovery of the true nature of love, against the church’s teachings, Adam married his husband Antonio. This led to his excommunication from the church, an experience that prompted him to explore the traumatic effects this high-demand religion had on him throughout his youth and early adulthood.

As an artist, Adam creates video art that explores the delicate journey of learning what uplifting truths to keep from his experiences within the church and what hurtful falsehoods to release. As a screenwriter, he creates characters who deal with similar themes of sexuality, identity, duality, and personal growth. He wants his characters to learn in an hour-and-a-half movie what took him 30 years to comprehend.
