Ian Garrick Mason is a Toronto-based director, cinematographer, and photographer. As a film maker his focus is on documentaries, short narrative films, music, and fashion. As a former journalist, his aim is to uncover the stories — and the unique beauty — often lying just under the surface of the people and places he shoots.
Ian is also the founding editor of SCOPE, a global magazine of ideas, culture, and emerging talent, and managing director of Hassard Fay, a firm that helps professional services firms, large enterprises, and non-profits develop thought leadership strategies and the creative content to execute them (through infographics, videos, white papers, and other formats). His background also includes periods as a freelance journalist for publications like The Boston Globe, The Times Literary Supplement, The Walrus, and The New Statesman, and as a management consultant.
