Acting : Anyone willing to answer a few questions? by Anne Alexander-Sieder

Anyone willing to answer a few questions?

Hey Actors, I'm an actor who returned to the business after almost a 16-year hiatus and had to start all over again from scratch (in another country no less - but that's another story), and I’m looking to interview other actors who have also taken a long break,  - whether that was to raise kids, earn a steady income, or whatever, but have now returned to their career and are frustrated with a lack of momentum.

This is purely for my own research. I’d love to hear what’s worked for you and what’s not working. I’ll be 100% honest, I DON’T technically have a business (just yet) — I do have an idea that I’m working on but I’m just getting started! (Which I hear is the hardest part). It would mean the world to me if we could hop on a quick zoom call so I could ask you a few questions. OR, if you know of someone who fits this description, please tag them below. Someone asked me if the was a sales call and well— I have nothing to sell at this time. I just decided to take out the guesswork of what was needed most by simply ASKING what actors are currently doing to get more work and auditions and what would be a helpful resource to create in the future! Thanks so much!

This is a great conversation to start here, Anne. Looking forward to seeing the responses.

I recently came back. Mostly I was traveling, and had children as well, so the pressure to be "always on" was a bit much. I'm getting calls for my son, but much of the outreach is typically pitching to join a new class, pay for a program, etc. Currently, I'm representing my son and will be doing some personal projects just for him, but I'm hoping to reintroduce myself in the process in this new age of entertainment. I believe there's much more opportunity to self-brand and be individually creative to build reasonable income without having to up and attach yourself to an agency right off the bat. Glad to have another reborn in the field! Feel free to share your experience or send me a message. I'm always looking to network with others who are traversing similar situations.

Hi Anne, I have been a full-time actor for 37 years, so I don't have the same experience of jumping back into the industry after a long break. But, if you ever have any industry questions, I am more than happy to try and answer them for you.

Steve James

Hi Anne, I'm 10 years into a second act after taking a 3 decade break...and I, too, am in a different country. Does that help?

Aaron Marcus

I am curious. Is it difficult working in other countries? Do you have to get a special working visa? Do you work with an agent or find jobs on your own?

It's great to see that you're conducting research to help yourself and other actors who have taken a long break and are struggling to gain momentum in their careers. It can be tough to restart after such a long time, but it's encouraging to see that you're reaching out to others who have gone through similar experiences to learn from their successes and challenges.I'm sure there are many actors out there who would be happy to share their experiences with you and provide insights into what has worked for them in terms of gaining momentum and getting more work and auditions.I wish you the best of luck in your research and hope that you're able to connect with actors who can provide valuable insights to you and other actors in a similar position.

The best advice is to just jump in! Don’t let a break hinder you. That means you’ve lived, experienced, grown, and all of that will make your acting better, stronger now.
