Hey everyone, I know this is gonna sound so childish of me but I really do need advice because I'm sure most of you have been in the industry longer than I have and I would love to know what you guys think or what you did. I have been acting since I was 8 but have never gotten into the actual industry, so I've been taking acting courses, film courses, technical courses and etc. I've been in several theatre shows along with commercials and such but I know that here in Miami if you don't speak Spanish the industry is gonna be extremely tough for you so California is your best bet. I started working two jobs to save up enough money to move by next year but didn't see going to College in that path. I'm finishing my AA in January so that if I do decide to go back to college I have my first two years completed. But my father isn't going to let me go to California if I don't go to school. Mind you he's not helping me at all to pay for school currently or for me to move to California eventually. So what do you think I should do? Finish my bachelors degree at a college here in Miami to satisfy him or maybe go to an arts school here with again satisfying him with a degree, or do you think I should just ignore him and move to California, find a regular job over there and attend auditions. I'm honestly really torn, and I know he doesn't control my life but I just want an opinion on someone who's already been through this before. P.S. The reason I want to move already is because I don't want my chances to die down due to me getting older. I want to start as young as possible. I'm currently turning 19 in two weeks. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Lauren! Well life decisions are never easy but I think the best thing to do is do what's best FOR YOU. I know listening to other people and wanting to do what they want you to do will only go so far. I think if acting is what you want to do, then go for it. BUT in my experience, I didn't listen to my father, and truthfully, although I thought I was gaining a degree for him and my family, years later, I really wish I did it for ME because I ended up not doing it at all. And even though I felt like I let him down, I really let myself down instead. But your really young, 2 years are going to fly by regardless of what you do, but my advice would be the degree, I was in your shoes once and well, I blew everything off, and now I wish I hadn't. Just my opinion. I too though that life would pass me by if I didn't start when I turned 18, but it didn't and I don't think it's going to. People want actors of all shapes and sizes, all age ranges. Whatever you do, just know that years later, you'll be reflecting on this decision and hopefully you'll be smarter and wiser. Good luck to you :)
