Not To be Offensive But...

As I wrote a script to my film, I made an Asian female character. The film from the start was gonna be very low budget and local... but guess what? I think I may have offended almost everyone I asked :). Finding someone to be a part of this is hard within itself, especially one not busy. Don't want to offend anyone though...

How about instead of approaching people and asking them, put out an advert, and let them come to you. This cuts out drawing on your own energy reserves, approaching people can be taxing, and I remember the fear of rejection myself. Maybe there is a drama or theatre school near your town, and there might be students wanting to add to their showreel. Some local library's give free space on notice boards, and this gets the attention of the whole drama community. Don't let initial knock backs block the path ahead, you've just been looking in the wrong places. Hope we see your film here, in time to come.

Being in a small place. People have "ideas" in their head or think you're weird or maybe even its that they're scared. I don't know. All I know is that its hard
