Acting : Professional head shot by Emily Michelle Arpino

Professional head shot

Can somebody please explain to me the importance of a professional headshot? Because I swear that I take awesome photos on my own, and I would rather not spend more than 25 dollars on a picture I will then have to update in the next 2 or 3 years, and I take great ones with my laptop webcam...Really, would any director throw away my resume and not let me audition because instead of spending money on a picture I spent it on acting lessons? Someone try to make sense of this to me.

It's extremely important to have a great headshot, it could be one of the things that decides if they contact you or not. But you don't have to go out and pay, do them at home. Take a digital camera, a nice outfit and a plain colored wall/backdrop. I've done this and they turn out just as great as a profesionally done photo. Plus it saves a ton of money!

I just got done auditioning for my feature. I wasn't as hard on people's headshots as I have seen others. One of the main things to think about with a "professional" headshot is that the Producer, Director, Casting Director, etc. see a "not so good" headshot and assume that the person isn't serious about his/her craft. If you are serious about acting, get a decent headshot.

webcam is definately not good enough quality for headshots, but you dont need to pay. I'm sure you have a friend who has a proffessional camera and can do them for you

thank you for commenting! I know people who spend loads of money of headshots that cost so much! Silly.

With Modern Photo equipment, even your I-Phone the only difference between a "Professional" headshot and not is the make-up and touch up. All agencies try to rip you off and have you get more photos. that is their modes-operandi!

A great headshot is very important. I live in Mobile AL and I found a great photographer that actually shoots from commercial prints to high fashion and it was $125. I had rights to my photos, it came in a portfolio with a cd and I get $50 off every referral to her business. It is all about finding a good deal and a professional look. I think it is a good investment because you are showing them you care and you are dedicated. I have had mine for 3 years and about to get new ones that will cost only 25 because of referrals. If you can't afford it at all ask for them as a present, that's the only reason why I have them. YOU can also make friends with people that are trying to become photographers because you can give them experience and in return you can free headshots. I hope this helps you.

I does help, everone who commented did and thank you for that. But I just don't have a lot of money to play more that 50 bucks on a headshot.

I recommend the place where I got mine done. It was pretty far away but only $140 and I got some great shots.

If yo want to be professional you should do pro photo and often u dont need to spend money on it.You find photogarpher,make-up artist or you can do yourself, but with pro camera its looks much better. You just have to look for it.Its easy.
