The Old Black Stump is a Nature Fantasy about Jik, a lizard living in the Canning River Wetlands who wants to serve his tribe as a Truthseeker amongst all the tribes of the wetlands. His spiritual quest is complicated by his love and loyalty to Ky a beautiful female from another tribe. He visits many tribes of different cultures, some of whom befriend and teach him, others who imprison and torture him. He survives a tribal war to meet a wise old lizard who teaches him the secret of finding inner peace. He returns home to share his new understanding with his tribe.
