Hoping I'm in the right place - just finished with TV Animation 101 with Brandon Gale. (Nice job, Brandon!) Question I forgot to ask: : Do networks (e.g., Netflix) do development deals for animation series? If so, what happens and what's the landscape like? I'm assuming one doesn't drop straight into production, correct? Thanks!

Hey Billy James Cobin , your assumption is correct. Anything that they get would spend time in development, and that amount of time will vary. The challenge that you're going to face when you pitch something from the outside is that studios constantly get internal pitches as well. When I worked at Disney and DreamWorks, anyone in the studio could submit an original idea. They also get pitches from established artists who work there. So you'll want to have the material your pitching looks like it's as ready for production as possible to try and give it that little leg up.

Thanks, Brian - that's very helpful. And it also goes to show, I suppose, that it definitely helps to make friends! Thanks for the input...

Im finding that most studios arent taking pitches from anyone unsolicited or that isnt a director/producer with an impressive body of work or taking them from agents/managers. Its pretty gatekeepey. The golden age of netflix buying stories from anyone is over lol
