My good friend animator Aaron Blaise has completed his hand drawn short SNOW BEAR. It's making the festival rounds and winning awards left and right. Will no doubt be an Oscar contender this year. The thing that is amazing is that he did all of the animation (character and efx) and backgrounds himself. He has some friends and family help him paint it. But otherwise it's a one-man show.
This and the feature Oscar winner last year, FLOW are proof it can be done without the studio fat cats.
Check out the trailer, behind the scenes and where you can see it at a festival near you here:
Also, he's partnered with Polar Bears International and the National Parks Conservation Association—two organizations dedicated to protecting our planet’s most treasured habitats and wildlife. They are supporting the film, and in turn Aaron is supporting them with donations and awareness. The way all stories should.

Laurie Ashbourne - I watched the trailer on this and please tell your friend Aaron that this is stunning. Truly stunning. I was blown away at the scene where the polar bear put his paw up against the snowman's nose and it crumbled. So many colors and details went into that scene and the reaction. Thank you for sharing this. An absolutely spectacular artist's work here.

Amanda Toney Thanks for checking it out! He just got news today that it's an official selection at Tribecca, so he's super stoked. Amazing what one person can do.

Laurie Ashbourne - thank you for sharing this post. This gets me excited as a smaller production company (for animation) on what's possible and what can be accomplished. Makes me want to revamp the goals and shoot higher on what I originally thought was possible.
