Blade Runner 2049 maker sues Musk over robotaxi images

This caught my eye this morning on my news feed.

“Production firm Alcon Entertainment claims it had specifically denied a request from Warner Bros to use material from the film at the launch event for Tesla's long-awaited robotaxi.

Alcon alleges that despite its refusal Tesla and the other organisers of the event on 10 October used artificial intelligence (AI) to create promotional imagery based on the film.”

What are your thoughts about that? Is Tesla testing the waters of the strength of AI legislation? Does Mr. Musk think he’s too big to be sued over meagre legalities? What else needs to be done to stop companies thinking that AI is somme kind of free pass over copyright laws?

If this is true, I hope Alcon Entertainment wins and it deters other companies and people from doing the same thing, Geoff Hall. Successful lawsuits -- especially huge ones -- is a major way to stop companies and people from thinking that AI is some kind of free pass over copyright laws.

Maurice Vaughan agreed, Maurice. They need to win and the damages need to be punitive, to deter any further misappropriation of IP.
