Soma Ghosh

Hi where can I post a question for the webinar as I am in India and it's in the middle of the night here so I can't attend live

Soma Ghosh

Hi, I am Soma from Mumbai India, I can't attend LIVE as the session is at 1.30am at night. I am sharing my 2 questions please:

1. How to rewrite few scenes using chatgpt or any other AI tool - without losing my writer's voice?

2. How to effectively edit a story (lets say from 6000 words to 4000 words using chatgpt or any other AI tool?) without losing my writer's voice.

Please do answer them.

Thanks!

Lynn Garthwaite

I'm curious about how someone can check a document they're reading to see if it was created using AI (i.e. when teachers want to make sure an essay that a student submitted wasn't created using AI).

Litty Williams

Hi , I have used ChatGPT a little bit to help me brainstorm plotting and structure., and have some questions:

1. how do you effectively get ChatGPT to remember or draw on inputs you gave it in a previous conversation?

2. How go you get chat gpt to use a particular and specific screenwriting structure, eg save the cat beats. Do I have to give them as an input?

Thanks

Joshua Young

Hi Soma. Your questions will definitely be answered here, after the webinar.

Joshua Young

Hi Lynn. This will be a question during the webinar, but a quick preview answer is, they can't. There is no technology that can scan a document and say that it was made with AI, unless the person who worked with said AI acknowledges it. What we hear on the news, often, is really professors at universities that read papers and think that the paper sounds similar in tone to how ChatGPT or Gemini would respond. So they are guessing it's made with AI.

Joshua Young

Hi Litty! I'll be going over that today, but one piece of info. is that the latest version of ChatGPT now has memory. There was another way of doing it in the past, and I'll still be showing that 'cause it is still relevant since ChatGPT's memory has a limitation to it. The short answer is, you can definitely do it and it is a huge timesaver. And to answer your other question, yes you basically do have to give it all the inputs, however, they make it easy for you to create what they currently call your own GPTs. I've loaded mine up with all the knowledge I need and I always just go straight to my gpt instead of use the general ChatGPT. Currently making GPTs is free, but I suspect that might change down the road. In today's class, I'll be showing a quick preview of GPTs so you can see it in action.

Christa Biyela

Definitely staying up for this session...

Micke Askernäs

Sadly I only learned about it now. Would have been nice to be part of the live webinar, but a little late to join now :/

Christa Biyela

Micke Askernäs I also go in late, but I see it's recording.

Willem Van Heemstra

Great webinar this was

Lynn Garthwaite

I learned SO much! Thank you, Joshua, for sharing all of your expertise and helpful tips.

Sydney Summers

Thank you everyone for tuning in!!!

Joshua Young

Thank you everyone! And thank you to the Stage32 team! It was a pleasure to host tonight's webinar! For all the attendees, the 25 page pdf with tips, tricks, and prompt examples for brainstorming, research, outlining, script drafts, and pitch materials, you'll be getting that, I believe within about 48 hours. So look out for that! And feel free to ask questions in this lounge. I'll be coming on from time-to-time to answer follow-up questions. For those who couldn't make it, be sure to purchase the webinar. It was a lot of fun!

Charles Nathan

That was a great webinar! Very informative. I'm looking forward to watching the re-play and getting the PDF.

Soma Ghosh

Hi, I bought the webinar, and couldn't attend live as it was 1.30am in India. I am unable to access the webinar. Can someone please help with access?

Lynn Garthwaite

Soma - they told us at the end of the webinar that it might be a day or two before the recording is available for those who could not attend. I'm sure you'll get a notification with a link when it's available.

Joshua Young

Thanks Charles! It was one of my favourite webinars to do. And Soma, yes Lynn is correct. If, by Tuesday at the absolute latest, you don't get an email, I'd suggest contacting Stage32 Support.

Soma Ghosh

Lynn Garthwaite thank you for letting me know. Fingers crossed!

Soma Ghosh

Joshua thanks, can't wait to hear you on the webinar - hearing all these good things here. And of course to hear the answer to my questions.... do you recommend that I post them here again? Asking for clarity since you had mentioned you will answer them after the webinar...

Joshua Young

Definitely watch the webinar for more in-depth information and examples, however, when it comes to your writer's voice, so far no AI can perfectly match a writer's voice. For me, that's a benefit as that helps protect the creativity side of using AI as a tool. That being said, the most effect ways I've found that help me in the editing or rewriting stages are: Asking it to (the AI) to "reorganize the scene where X character is more of the protagonist." Or simply by telling it "I want the following things achieved and want to know if it's clear that they are in the following scene: Jana has a change of heart half-way through, Michael visually realizes that there's something wrong etc..." Another thing to keep in mind is, although ChatGPT, which personally I feel is the best so far, can do amazing things, it can miss elements of the story from time-to-time, especially the larger the volume of information you give it at any one time. So if you have a story you want to edit or rewrite, break the conversations down into sections. For example, if it were a movie script, I'd upload just Act One and give it a paragraph or two of what Acts 2 & 3 are and then start the edit and rewrite process on Act One. Then, when Act One is done, I'd move onto Act 2 in the same chat. Now it has the memory of all the work you did on Act One and what changes you want to make so it is better armed for Act 2. Essentially treat it like a human. We don't want to overload a person with information then ask them to get into the details. We want to give the person chunks at a time and then talk to it. Another tip is, if you don't like something it does, tell it. For example: "I don't like that idea on re-structuring the scene. Show me what it would look like if the middle was the beginning, the beginning was the end and the end was the middle." That's just an example, but it's fun to move things around in that manner to give you a different perspective of your story.

Lynn Garthwaite

Even MORE helpful information, Joshua. I have already been playing with it to give me ideas for future episodes for a comedy series for which I have written a pilot. I was super interested in the ideas it spewed out!

Joshua Young

That's great to hear Lynn! Another quick tip I love to use is, once you've written a scene, upload it and ask it to give you fifty words to describe the environment. I find I can really enhance the tone and character of an environment by choosing words out of the massive list. In the past I spent twice the amount of time google searching for word lists that were accurate to my environment. I love how, thanks to ChatGPT and other AI's, they can understand your environment then pump out word lists you can then use.

Lynn Garthwaite

Giant lightbulb just went off in my head with your suggestion, Joshua. I often say that the Thesaurus is my favorite book, because I often pop it open to find just the right word to express what I'm trying to say on the page. But from your description, I'm betting AI would dig even deeper, and, having my scene as a reference, would cast a much wider net than when I'm searching for a single word with the Thesaurus. It's so good to be living in the 21st century.

Joshua Young

Absolutely! It has definitely replaced my thesaurus!

Sydney Summers

Hey everyone if you had an issue viewing the handout from the webinar, we have uploaded the revised document to your my library! Email edu@stage32.com if you're having any issues accessing this.

Litty Williams

I don’t have the recording in my library yet. Can you help? Thanks

Lynn Garthwaite

Litty - Try the following (if this isn't what you've already done): Click on the little Shopping Cart icon in the upper right, then click on My Library. After that, click on the AI Webinar (where you can watch it again if you choose), and then if you click on Downloads, it will bring you to the handout. Be sure to save it to your computer so you can look at it whenever you want. Hope that helps.

Christa Biyela

Sydney Summers Hope you are well. I have also sent an email about the issue viewing some of the pages of the handout. Will appreciate the help. Thank you.

Sydney Summers

Hi, Christa! Thank you, I am well :) How are you? Yes, we are about to send an email to all attendees with the new documents not corrupted shortly and will be uploading these as well to your my library. You'll hear from us soon from edu@stage32.com

Christa Biyela

I am good, thanks. I appreciate the swift response, Sydney Summers

Kevin Hager

What is ChatGPT? Does it have a website?

Joshua Young

Hi Kevin. ChatGPT is owned by OpenAI. As a writer, think of it as an advanced google search. And that's putting it lightly. It's an artificial intelligence you can talk to. So for example, let's say you want to write a story about being a Roman soldier and what the daily life of one is. you can just say to it, "Give me a list of the pros and cons of being a Roman soldier and give me some information about their daily lives." Let's say you finished the latest draft of your screenplay, but want to proofread it all to make sure there aren't any mistakes. You can upload the pdf of your screenplay to ChatGPT and tell it to do just that. You can then say, "My intention for the protagonist is to have grown to the point of accepting their new life by the end of the story. Do you think that was achieved or will the audience understand that?" The talk I give shows you the ins and outs of all of that so check it out!

Soma Ghosh

THIS IS WEIRD. I PURCHASED THIS & HAVE THE RECEIPT FOR THE SAME. I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED A LINK TO THE RECORDING . NEITHER DOES IT SHOW UP ON MY EDUCATION PAGE. I HAVE WRITTEN TO HELP & SUPPORT AT STAGE 32 - NOONE BOTHERS TO REPLY EVEN AFTER 5 DAYS. HELLO !!!! IS SOMEONE ABLE TO HELP???
