This is my submission for the DC's Stargirl Spitfire Audio Scoring Competition, August 2021.
When composing this short clip score for this year’s ‘Spitfire Competition’ I was compelled to write four musical themes, which connect both the characters and story together.
The musical score comprises of:
1. Peril at the bridge
2. S.T.R.I.P.E to the rescue (Pat Dougan’s Theme)
3. Stargirl to the rescue with the cosmic staff (Stargirl Theme)
4. Joey’s Theme and the emergence of Icicle
Key to this clip score was to create a compelling and fluid score, which embraced and captured the emotions and key moments of the 1:31 screen storytelling.
I am a great believer in engaging with different opportunities to expand the narrative of a music portfolio and this yearly competition provides just that, as well as boosting your musical composition abilities to a wider audience.

You are in good company, Steve Dale! Several of our members do these types of challenges as well! Do you then add them to your portfolio? I wasn't sure if only the winners of the competition were allowed to share.

Hi Karen. In most cases as the position is that of a competition, providing that you make this clear in the referencing of your work and that it is clear that you have not been commissioned, employed or engaged by the company in question and the competition organisers make clear the terms of reference surrounding any submission that you may then use your entry on social media or part of your ongoing creative portfolio, then this will make clear the terms of which you can promote your work.
