Composing : Musio, VST3 by Joel Irwin

Musio, VST3

Two years ago, I purchased Native Instruments Komplete 13. NI is now on 14 and I have barely touched all the products in Komplete though I have to admit my main interest was to enhance my samples with percussion and guitars which I have did. Now Komplete 13 is VST2 compliant and works perfectly fine with Kontakt 6 which I still use (with Sibelius).

Today I spent on what seems another good deal with Musio for $299 (I have been using Cinesamples on and off for many years now). Today could be the last day for that price - not sure. Anyhow, I may or may not be able to use those samples immediately since Musio supports VST3.

As far as I know my current version of Sibelius (v7) and the current version still do not support VST3. This is also stopping me from going to Kontakt7 which I purchased last year (with its libraries) before I realized there was a thing called VST3.

So for the time being I have purchased and wait. I have been told to check out:

https://www.xlutop.com/buzz/zip/vst3shell.zip

and

https://www.xlutop.com/buzz/zip/shell2vst.zip

which may solve the issue while I wait for Sibelius support. However, if Avid does not support VST3 for Sibelius (in Windows - Mac version already supports) in the near future, sometime in 2024, I am considering crossgrading to Dorico (which already supports VST3).

Meanwhile, I'll have samples sets already purchased from Kontakt7 and Musio ready to go.

Anyone else in a "VST bind"?

I checked out the two xlutop.com links above. The second will not download and anyway is unnecessary though I will leave that link in the above post -- do not bother clicking on it. The top zip file is 'magic'. You put all the files that are in the vst2shell zip into the folder that contains all your 'vst3' plugins. In the case of Musio, they went into \Program Files\Common Files\VST3. You then get your software to go through the process of recognizing plugins and voila! Even if your app does not support VST3, they are now supported. I tried loading an instrument into the Musio VST3 plugin and lo and behold, I was able to use/play it in Sibelius.

Joel, I transitioned from Sibelius 7.5 to Dorico a few ago. It’s great !!

If you could upgrade to version 3 or 3.5 like I Have, it would be great. Version four and five use the M chip, whereas version three still uses in Intel processors on Mac..

it works great w / NI 12 !!

My suggestion- IMHO.

Hope all is well in your world.
