Filmmaking / Directing : What is Stage 32? by Tim Munger

What is Stage 32?

I am a professional sound mixer and can only work at a higher level of production, has anyone been able to secure decent rates through meeting people on this site? I get calls for work but most are low budgets that I can no longer take.

Rachael Saltzman

Nope. I see a lot of aspirants asking people to work for nothing, and haven't seen a real gig yet. That said, I think there are a smattering of crew pros to meet.

Launa Buettell

Hi Tim, I am a professional sound recordist/engineer, and haven't found anyone on here yet, that is offering a decent paid position....so good luck.

Jeremiah Baumbach

Tim, I'm not a sound mixer I'm a DP but I have found that most of the people registered on this site are aspiring filmmakers making connections with other aspiring filmmakers and actors. If production managers used this site religiously then you would see more paid "professional" work. I have a featured listing on ProductionHub which has led to a lot of out of state producers to me here in Central Florida. Marketing my talents in a forum where professionals seek professional has worked out very well for me as clients contact me and inquire about my rates a availability (the work comes to me).

Andrea Thompson

Tim - there's a paid projects section on Stage 32. Also, there are many levels of sound people on here - from people just starting out (like Jeremiah mentioned) to hugely talented academy level (one guy I met during a discussion here does post sound for Disney). As you do in life, you just have to be willing to put in the time and research to network with the right people on Stage 32. It's remarkable the people that are on here.
