I wanted to get everyone's advice on the best way to fund a feature documentary that would essentially be shot in Los Angeles. Any kinds of funding strategies worked for you? How about locations or logistics that really halted production?

One source for funding is always applying for grants. But I am sure you already know that. For alternatives you can get the book 'BANKROLL'

Hire a local film student and use the school equipment, insurance & student filming permits.
RB and Dan MaxXx, good advice. How do you feel about New York Film Academy for film crew, to keep costs down for a short indie film? The school has a branch in Los Angeles now.
