Hi fellow directors,
I find it interesting to find out about other director's methods to tell a story and make a movie or series.
What do you personally pay more attention to?
Character development or overall story continuity?
I personally focus more on character development, because if the audience knows more about our characters, they are more likely to feel with them, right? I think, the movie would suffer, if character development is cut to bring the story forward. I get it, you only have limited time in a feature film and the story is important, too, but isn't it important to make the characters known to the audience? I'd rather watch a movie that only has an okay story, but the character development is very well than a movie with a very good story, but we know very little about the characters and who they are. But that's my opinion/taste, what's yours?

@Fabien I try to emphasise traits of the character that will serve to move the story/plot forward. Their internal world causes an action in external world so something else happens in story.
