Self Distribution

Hey Ya'll so I have a unique topic point. So obviously distribution plays a big role for our films especially in a highly invested project, but one thing I find very frustrating is sitting and waiting in between projects to get off the ground. So I have decided to post one micro film a month on YouTube to help the efforts of getting noticed and playing the long game that we all play. I just want to make movies and just sitting and waiting for the key holders to say yes or no is killing me. This is an effort to take matters into my own hands while at the same time writing my scripts and developing bigger projects. What do you all think about this?

Maurice Vaughan

I think that's a great idea, Ahi Black. What's your YouTube channel? I'll check out your films.

Maurice Vaughan Any ideas on what to post in on the other weeks within the month?

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Ahi Black. I subscribed to your channel. How about behind the scenes videos, movie campaigns to get people interested in your movies, short film reviews, more interviews, more Q&As, and more director vlogs?

Ahi Black

Maurice Vaughan Thats brilliant! Thank you!

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Ahi Black. Glad it's helpful.

When I said "movie campaigns to get people interested in your movies," I meant things that won't cost a lot of money, Ahi Black. Stuff that ties into your movies. Social media games people can play, scavenger hunts, activities, etc.

Distribution is such an interesting subject. I think we sometimes forget how big the world is and how many people we are on the Earth. Different people like to watch different movies, depending on their country and culture. Here in Taipei, where I live, we often watch Japanese movies. I think YouTube is a good start to learn about the world and see what movies can be popular where. Best of luck to you!

Ahi Black Kudos to you. As most of our audiences live in the digital space, especially social media, I absolutely think YouTube is a great step, especially if you've optimized the heck out of your videos and channel. YouTube is a lot of work in itself, but it can be quite rewarding. And as a video platform, it's likely as popular as Cineplex, Tubi, and others not named Netflix or Prime.
