I took this webinar yesterday and enjoyed getting an overview of the traditional distribution landscape for Indie Films. It would be interesting though, to find a webinar on alternative distribution models, for Indie Film. I’m sure that the IPG could shed some light on the subject.
Kristin Harris was great though, working on her experience with Vertical Entertainment. She spoke about Historical Shifts, Theatrical, Day & Date and Ancillary Releases, Rights and Revenues, the distribution landscape and Terms.
It was the Terms section that gave me the most concern - signing over your rights as a producer for anything from 7 to 30 years. I won’t be around in 30 years! Yes, it’s negotiable, but to consider you may be working against the expectations of the distribution company from the get-go?
