Financing / Crowdfunding : Maybe an atypical financing model...? by Timo Puolitaipale

Maybe an atypical financing model...?

Hey gang!

We have been developing a property for about 5-6 years now called MISTER SANDMAN.

Though we have the feature film in the works (going to camera this fall), and were able to sign an agreement for foreign rights sales with a respectable sales agent and with an MG for the film, things slowed down a bit on the financing side so we went ahead with a prequel series for the feature with the help of some creative funding.

The horror series, NIGHTMARES MANIFEST, started off with some minor crowdfunding and small pockets of private equity from the producer (me) and director. But to really get into principal photography, we signed an agreement with an insurance company to use some of the the filmed footage for their advertising on the fears surrounding insurance. It was not your usual funding route but it pushed us through principal photography and into the editing room where we are now.

To get over the finish line, we just made BluRays of the series available for pre-sale on Kickstarter at www.nightmaresmanifest.com where we're also shouting to the rooftops, looking to bolster our producer team as we head towards distribution.

It's been an odd path, with all these different pit stops, but it's getting us to where we're going and I'm enjoying the journey even though it can be heart-stopping and gut-wrenching some days.

Thanks for listening!

Thank you! Yes, that's right on the insurance company front. Had to shoot some extra material but it was well worth it.

Been wracking our brains on coming up with ideas to get over the finish line!
