Big Movies

Hey, everyone. Hope you’re doing great. My name’s Maurice. I'm a screenwriter, ghostwriter, commercial writer, and pitch deck designer. I'm also a Stage 32 Lounge Moderator.

There are a lot of big movies coming out this year. What are you most excited to see?

Amanda Toney

Happy introduce yourself weekend Maurice! I'm looking to seeing BIRD at Cannes this year. How about you Maurice?

Maurice Vaughan

Happy Introduce Yourself Weekend, Amanda Toney! I'm most excited for "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice." "Bird" is on my list too. I don't know much about "Bird" though. That's how I like it when I see a new movie.

Geoff Hall

Maurice Vaughan for me it was Dune: Part Two, but The Zone of Interest was great, as was Civil War. The next film that I'm looking forward to see, is Nic Cage in Arcadian.

Maurice Vaughan

I'm looking forward to seeing all of those, Geoff Hall, especially "Civil War." I'm not sure if I've heard of "The Zone of Interest" though.

Thanks for sharing the "Arcadian" trailer. I saw a trailer for it a while back, but I forgot about the movie. I guess that shows the importance of releasing a trailer again before a movie comes out.

Geoff Hall

Maurice Vaughan The Zone of Interest won a best international film Oscar this year, Maurice. It's a film by Jonathan Glazer, about the Camp Commandant at Auschwitz. You may remember the furore that his acceptance speech caused at the Oscars?

Maurice Vaughan

I didn't catch the Oscars this year, Geoff Hall. I was planning to, but I think I got busy with a project. I watched some of the highlights though.

David Blaustein

Hi Maurice Vaughan! There are SO many. Hmmm... The new Mad Max, Gladiator, Joker, Beetlejuice, and Wicked movies come to mind. In other words, if it's derivative, I'm there!

Maurice Vaughan

I wanna check out all of those, David Blaustein. Lady Gaga looks great as Harley Quinn.

Billy Kwack

Hi Maurice, probably deadpool 3, I want to see some x men Characters

Maurice Vaughan

I definitely wanna see "Deadpool 3," Billy Kwack. It looks like a Superhero version of a Buddy Cop movie.

Opal Morningstar

I am enjoying No Film School podcast and the valuable information provided. Check it out! Keep writing and moving toward success.

Sam Sokolow

I'm a big fan of the Mad Max universe. The first Mad Max is a classic, The Road Warrior blew the doors off my brain when it came out, and Mad Max: Fury Road is a masterpiece. Thunderdome had issues but nobody bats a thousand and there were still memorable takeaways. So Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is a movie I am jazzed for and will go see on the biggest screen it comes out on.

Maurice Vaughan

I've read No Film School's articles, but I'm not sure if I've listened to their podcast, Opal Morningstar. Thanks for the idea. Keep writing and moving toward success too!

Maurice Vaughan

I liked all of the "Mad Max" movies, Sam Sokolow. I watched the trailer for "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga" the other day. It looks intense! Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth are incredible actors! Looking forward to checking it out.

Ashley Renee Smith

Maurice Vaughan, I'm pretty excited about the new Beetlejuice movie and Wicked!

Maurice Vaughan

I can't wait for the new "Beetlejuice," Ashley Renee Smith! "Wicked" looks interesting. I don't know a lot about it though. Is it a Musical?

Ashley Renee Smith

Yes, Maurice Vaughan! It's based off the Broadway Musical, which was based off the book by Gregory Maguire. The first half is sort of a prequel to The Wizard of Oz that ends up in the second half running parallel to that story's plot.

Maurice Vaughan

Cool, Ashley Renee Smith. I didn't really like Musicals, but "Wonka" made me like them more.

E Langley

CIVIL WAR was a good film. Not a great one. Yet it's worth the trip.

Maurice Vaughan

Are there any other movies you're looking forward to seeing this year, E Langley?

Leonardo Ramirez

Maurice Vaughan Happy IYW, my friend. So Godzilla x Kong was a fun ride. I’m also looking forward to Furiosa and Deadpool & Wolverine.

Maurice Vaughan

Happy IYW, Leonardo Ramirez. I'm looking forward to seeing "Godzilla x Kong"! I saw the trailer, but I've been dodging everything else about it. Haha

Leonardo Ramirez

Maurice Vaughan If you can, try to catch it in theaters…where it’s nice and loud!

Maurice Vaughan

Yeah, "Godzilla x Kong" is one of those movies that's made for theaters, Leonardo Ramirez. I missed "Godzilla Minus One" in theaters. It's coming to streaming next month.

Leonardo Ramirez

Godzilla Minus One was incredible, Maurice Vaughan. Totally different feel from GxK.

Maurice Vaughan

If I don't get to see "Godzilla x Kong" in theaters, Leonardo Ramirez, I'll do a double feature with "Godzilla Minus One" on streaming.

Leonardo Ramirez

Great idea, Maurice Vaughan. If you do, you’ll have to let me know. I’d love to know what you thought of G-1.

E Langley

Maurice Vaughan, it takes an Act of Congress to get my butt out and into a theater seat. So, not in theatrical release.

Otherwise. C'mon! Wolverine and Deadpool, of course. KINDS OF KINDNESS. ALIEN: ROMULUS. When they stream.

Asmaa Jamil

I cannot choose right now. Too many good ones.

Pat Alexander

I can't wait to see Gladiator 2 this fall! Ridley Scott is the man!

Maurice Vaughan

I'm definitely checking out "Alien: Romulus," E Langley. That's #3 on my list. "Deadpool & Wolverine" is #2.

Maurice Vaughan

I know what you mean, Asmaa Jamil. What's one movie you're looking forward to checking out this year?

Maurice Vaughan

I'm looking forward to "Gladiator 2," Pat Alexander! I saw the first one in theaters.

Asmaa Jamil

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

Maurice Vaughan

I wanna see "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" too, Asmaa Jamil! I need to watch the other movies first though. I'm so behind. Haha

Nick Phillips

It's a good year when there are new Apes, Alien and Mad Max movies coming out Maurice Vaughan!

Maurice Vaughan

Yeah, Nick Phillips. Combine those three and you'll get a wild movie: "Mad Alien Apes" Haha

Robin Gregory

Hi Maurice Vaughan. I'm excited about the little movies! Frybread Face & Me, The Outrun, A Different Man.

Maurice Vaughan

I haven't heard of those movies, Robin Gregory. They're on my watchlist now. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing "Frybread Face & Me." What a title!

Robin Gregory

Maurice Vaughan , Exec producer: Taika Waititi. Directed by Billy Luther. Distributed by Ava DuVernay's Array Releasing, https://movieweb.com/billy-luther-frybread-face-and-me-interview/

Maurice Vaughan

I wanna see "Frybread Face & Me" even more now, Robin Gregory. Thanks for posting the link.

Jill Godley

So many, Bad Boys 4, Mufasa, Beatlejuice 2, Cruella 2, Rush Hour 4, Twisters, etc

Maurice Vaughan

I didn't know "Rush Hour 4" came out this year, Jill Godley. That's definitely on my list now! And definitely "Twisters." I loved watching "Twister" growing up. Also "Bad Boys 4." This is my first time hearing about "Mufasa."

Jill Godley

Maurice Vaughan I saw it on IMDB. Not sure how true it is, but super cool if it's right.

Maurice Vaughan

I can't wait, Jill Godley! I watched trailers for some of the movies that are coming out this year, but I might skip the other trailers. I also dodge a lot of promo. I like to find out what a movie is about as I watch it.

Kristina Van Kirk Hoffman

I'm looking forward to The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Sasquatch Sunset, Civil War (even though it received mediocre reviews) and A Family Affair - love the cast.

Maurice Vaughan

I'm looking forward to "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" too, Kristina Van Kirk Hoffman! I just looked up "A Family Affair." Incredible cast! "Sasquatch Sunset" looks exciting!

Robin Gregory

Maurice Vaughan and @Geoff Hall, I found The Zone of Interest profoundly disturbing. Depiction of Auschwitz in the most implicit and visceral way imaginable - through sound, conversational references, antithetical contrasts, i.e., country idyll, pounding industrial noise, kids' laughing and playing, gunshots, barking, smoke, distant shouts and screams. A mid-screen wall between an SS officer's flower garden and Auschwitz hides the atrocities we all know are happening behind it. I could hardly bear to watch or listen to it.

Maurice Vaughan

I just looked up "The Zone of Interest," Robin Gregory. It does sound like it's really rough to watch. Movies like this drain me. I'm not sure if I'll watch it.

Scott Sawitz

Maurice Vaughan Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is fun... it's like a second tier Inglorious Basterds.

Maurice Vaughan

Cool, Scott Sawitz. I see the similarities between those two movies. I didn't know "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" was a Guy Ritchie movie until just now.

Robin Gregory

I'm the same way, Maurice Vaughan. I can't even watch horror films :--).

Maurice Vaughan

I can watch Horror movies, Robin Gregory, but it's really hard to watch super gory movies like "Saw." I've only seen like two "Saw" movies.
