Hi, I always loved acting, love watching others act and I love story telling! I have been alive for 23 years now and still have trouble finding content that I can relate to or simply see someone who looks like me, which I assume is the issue for many women and minorities. I can't wait on someone to shine light on my existence and see it on the screen. I'm the one desiring the more diverse content so I will be the one to make it. I am almost done writing my first series but I am green to the industry and don't know where to go from there. Should I try and get connections to shop it around? Should I try and raise funding and create a webseries? I have no clue but I just know my stories will be told and am open to any advice and meeting new people along the way.

Hey Dejavu, sounds real interesting do you have a subject matter that you want to see as a platform for the show?
Hi James, I'll definitely check it out. I'd love to learn more! And as for the show I am working on the subject matter at hand would be Rejection in regards to romance.
My advice is this - decide what you want to be. Writer? Actor? Producer? A combo? Once you decide what your goal is, there will be a path to take. But you should decide on a goal, because every path is different and to a certain extent, mutually exclusive.

Hi Alexia. I do a LOT of content with people of color and in the 20+ years I have in the industry, I can tell you how casting politics and funding politics have and have not changed. The wish to see people like yourself on screen is of course common and there are, unfortunately, structures in place (especially in mainstream) which make that difficult. And currently the word "diversity" is actually used to facilitate the exclusion of certain groups from in front of and behind the screen. There is an ongoing discussion group of Stage32 people who are discussing how to create more actual diversity. If you contact me here, I will let you know when the next one is. So far as what you should do... my answer is what do you really want to do? Do you want to tell your stories? Then you should figure how to produce and direct. Do you want to write stories for others? Then figure how to get your words in front of producers and directors who might like them. In 2020 (soon 2021) this is still an industry with many, many possibilities and no single reliable path for anyone. That is frightening for some, because you don't know where you are going necessarily. For others, there's always something new and unexpected around every corner.
John Ellis Thanks for the advice. Acting is my number one and considering my love for stories it only makes sense I aim towards A combination of writing and acting.
Shadow Dragu-Mihai, Esq., Ipg Thank you so much for your thoughtful response! I would love to join the discussion group you mentioned and learn more. I'll be sending you a message.

We are in a wild world. Follow your dreams and work on them, period. I've been doing that and it looks like I am about to break through. I have 2 published short stories that I credit for my writing who pushed me through to this point. Woo Hoo!
